Sorry for delays. I generally sit on the deck and read in the evening.
The Blizzard security systems are pretty extensive, without trying to make player lives miserable. There is a security system that detects strange logins based in IP, computer, patterns, etc. It locks the account and you need to change the password from the new location or PC. That security lock is reduced by putting an Authenticator on the account. Instead of locking, it requests a code.
Honestly, a good thing to have. I still have the old physical one, but if you have the mobile version you need to do a couple things. Go into the menu and save the Serial Number and Restore code somewhere safe. That lets you put YOUR auth back on a device if you get a new phone, reset software, etc.
The people who are willing to shell out money for the game again after getting banned, legit ban or not, are setting a pretty bad precedent. It’s an incentive for more ban happiness and intrusive spyware to dig out any excuse for a ban.
I sure as hell wouldn’t buy the game again, unless they by some miracle, decided to sell a completely DRM free version.
I think the they there you are worrying about is ISP and other tracking, which sure, but if you are worried about a company in which you are running their software, VPN is the least of your worries.
Assuming for a sec that what you say is true about blizzard tapping into your webcam to watch you play… if blizzard had that inclination they could do it whether you were using a VPN or not.
Making a connection like that wouldn’t occur from outside->inside, such attempts could be easily defeated by a basic firewall or even cg-nat.
If blizzard really wanted to spy on your webcam they’d initiate a connection from inside->outside back to blizzard’s servers and the client would be buried in the game code already on your pc. That kind of connection would work even if you were using a VPN.
im not quite undestand here, so playing with vpn will get ban? was plannign to try vpn, i think from patch 1.5 something, somehow my ping to asia server higher than usual,
my region are sout east asia, Bali, connect to asia server ping was like 60-200is, mostly around 100-200, connect to US server 200++ ping, EU, 400++ ping, my ping to google (8.8.8.8) are 30-40ms
changing internet provider are not option, since option very limited and some region are not support, i have to move my living place to get certain provider, cellular data also have high ping.
It does not matter how they connect to your PC. Once you touch the Blizzard servers you give them consent to monitor and have no expectation of privacy within the Blizzard applications. If you use Blizzard software to game, chat, etc. that is not private.
No, they don’t touch your web cam though. They also don’t touch anything else on your PC. The software used for anti cheat is more like antivirus in that it looks for only programmed flags, not your whole computer.
Which makes sense. Anything deeper than directly connected to their software or files would be a crime on their part. Something a company of their worth knows better than to do in general.
Well, since this thread has been risen from the dead and you’re still active on the forums: that’s an interesting philosophical question, innit?! Would you rather let some murderer go free or have innocents accidently locked up? (In reality, you can have both at the same time, ain’t that great?!).
But since we’re not talking murderers but bans in a game, I’m clearly for UNDERbanning.
You’re innocent until proven to be guilty. The burden of proof lies on the accuser.
Reverse onus won’t really work in such a case. How are you supposed to prove that you didn’t do whatever they accuse you of?
[3) if you get wrongfully thrown into prison, you later get some financial compensation for it. What do you get here if they wrongfully ban and later unban you? MAYBE a “we are sorry” and that’s it.]
