Ret for melee. Multiple charges of freedom makes clearing the DoT trivial, + for a melee it has a lot of ranged attacks and ranged is generally easier in this fight because you don’t have to worry as much about mechanics landing on the Egg.
I’ve heard Shadow is pretty good for Ranged. I don’t play that. I play Ele Shaman. Once I realized the cleanse talent was tied to Ghost Wolf it was pretty cake as Ele. Just can’t use Ghost Wolf for mobility because it triggers the cooldown on the cleanse. But you still have Spiritwalker’s Grace and Gust of Wind and Wind Rush if you need movement.
In general, don’t use Tank Pets / Summons.
Hunter Pets will die. Turn off the taunts.
Earth Ele will live for a bit.
In both cases, all it’s going to do for a ranged class is get you into trouble because cones will target the tanky thing and then you’re further out than you meant to be so dodging it is harder. It’s pretty much always best to facetank this guy so you know where the cleaves will go as much as possible and minimal movement is required to get out of them.
Shadow is probably the easiest. Damage is scaled down for them. Their burst with Voidweaver lines up with the eggs well. Interrupt requirements are based on your interrupts cooldown, so he won’t be trying to heal that often and the damage of his casts is reduced. You can use Fade to get out of all the snares.
As mentioned, pets are getting 1 shot. Something quick and ranged would be good. Dont stand too far away. The issue is that the cones spread. So the further away you are, the further you have to run to get out of the cone. So anything you can move quickly with and can dps the eggs are vital. In fact, the eggs are more important. So you want to use cooldowns on them. The boss is just 1 big avoid the frontal and be quick to the eggs.
As long as you can kill the eggs consistently and don’t faceplant into a frontal you can fight him forever. That’s why people can do it with extremely low ilvl, or even almost no gear equipped at all. Work out a rotation of cds / damage resources that kills every egg, and then whittle down zekvir whenever you get chance.
Regardless the spec you choose, or your skill as a player…
Mentally prepare yourself to put a good amount of wipes on him. And at least half of your wipes will be unavoidable. Just brush it off and go again. It is what it is.
Brann still makes a lot of dumb mistakes, and the speed in which you kill him WILL affect how the attacks line up, so don’t blow Zekvir up. There is a cadence to the fight.
This just isn’t true. You can put yourself in positions where there’s nothing you can do in that moment, but you can play in such a way that you don’t end up in them to begin with.
