The YouTuber, is using copyrighted music from the World of Warcraft game in his monetized videos that are unrelated to the game. Just thought you should know, might not be a big deal, but I care about this game and would hate for someone to make money off your backs when it’s completely unrelated to World of Warcraft content.
I don’t know what you expect the outcome to be, but you’ll need to remove the name and the link.
The callout of the name is classed as harassment, and should be avoided, and leaving links will drive traffic to his channel, something which they all want, is more viewers, etc.
Thanks, Catroman. If you haven’t already, I believe youtube has a reporting option, which would likely be a bit faster then what I believe we could do.
I don’t think YouTube accepts copyright claims on videos from anyone other than the copyright holder. Considering WoW’s music is being used, that means it’d fall to Blizzard/Activision/Microsoft, wouldn’t it?
(Also, is there a place to ask permission to use WoW’s music in content creation? )
depending on the content they are doing their is something called fair use. That lets them use some stuff in their videos and yes monetize it. Yes if you think there is a problem report it to youtube.
Fair use isn’t carte blanche to use copyrighted content without rightsholder’s permission. It is actually only applicable as a defense in court if sued for copyright infringement, and claiming it doesn’t always work.
Agreed. I have seen the argument, “It’s fair use if you use it and not make money from it.” Fair use is rather strict on how you use a item in a certain fashion.
Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses—such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research—as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use.
