"You're not playing right if you don't use macros"

First: I do use macros. Because the game is designed that way.

Second, I’m not actually “Playing” if I use macros, I’m running macros. Why is it so bad to want to have agency and do all my own actions in a game?

(Don’t get me wrong, I love macros for a lot of things but they should be more quality of life things)

Who are we quoting? :dracthyr_nervous_animated: Who are we talking to? Also your hat looks quite nice.

Every time I entere a discussion about having to cast so many spells at the start of a fight running through timed dugneons. This is the response I get. Like I should be “okay” with it. Should I be? that’s the question.

PS your outfit is also sharp.

All these type of hats are intended for Vulpera. Because characters with hair get a buzzcut just to wear the hat.

And no. Macros are intended to aid you, make your gameplay easier. But are not at all required. I made some cast sequences for my afflic warlock cause all those dots were taking up too much space. But that was my own choice. I had to make it myself cause it didn’t exist.

They look great with the ears, too.

The game is playable with or without macros. If you can hit the button when you need it, you’re fine.

huh? Most things are on the GCD, so you can’t effectively macro them together anyway.

Macros are useful, so I don’t know why you’d purposefully avoid them. Like…the biggest one for me is a macro that makes sure I never cast Penance on myself when I’m using it offensively. Well, I tell a lie. My most used macros are my mount macros that switch between Dragonriding > Flying > Ground mounts depending on where I am.

They’re a tool like any other. Play however you want, but there’s really no reason not to use them.

You can play without macros. Sure they help but if you wanna do it your way and it works for you then there ya go.

the discussion is usually making things simpler so you can be as effective casting your own spells.

Oh look, another thinly veiled “too many burtons” post.

Who is Burton? I am not familiar with this meme.

Buttons, but now that I read it, it adds the silliness this topic deserves.

That’s the kind of thing macros should be for. Not because I lose DPS trying to make a mana gem. Fix the mana gem thing.

I dont know if I have ever heard this argument before.

It’s in the thread about figuring out what made WoW great. But has popped up before. As soon as someone mentions there are so many buttons we have to write macros, someone says we should be writing macros if we’re any good. I’m just asking if we really “should have to”.

I mean, I macro trinkets to my CDs on my dps characters. But that’s mostly because I’m lazy and don’t really care if I’m using things optimally on alts.

Back in TBC there was a macro where hunters could just scroll their mouse wheel to execute their DPS rotation. You can’t do that anymore…

All trolls need a /dance macro cause it’s easier to poke a button than to type it out.

If you are overwhelmed by the amount of buttons, then sure. Its an idea. Its an option.

But you dont have to. You can just get used to the amount of buttons.

I’m trying to remember what macros I used when WoW first came out. There was one to swap weapons after a move because the UI at the time made swapping weapons difficult. that no longer works, either, IIRC.
