Your very first CD-ROM game?

That’s been awhile to remember for sure. I think it was Myst, but if it wasn’t it was the T.I.E. Fighter CE when it released.

OMFG! wow… This may require some time travel! I Think my first game with a Rom may be UO. Heck, that may have had floppy disks…

I’m pretty sure the copies of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom that I played were both floppy disk, so my first CD-ROM PC game was probably X-Wing vs TIE Fighter. I don’t remember if I had a Playstation yet at that point though, if I did then Final Fantasy VIII would be my first CD game overall.

Mechwarrior 2

Still one of the best OSTs in all of gaming, and the first one I can remember where you could put the game disc in a standard cd player and listen to the soundtrack. All game data was on track 1, with the other ~25 tracks being listenable as normal.

In my youth I exclusively played consoles. I believe my first pc game was likely one of the Red Alerts. Then I believe Warcraft 3 followed by Everyquest then World of Warcraft.

I honestly couldn’t tell you, because my father purchased this PC/game bundle back in the day. It came with a literal binder full of CD games.

-Jazz Jackrabbit
-Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 & 2
-Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego
-Schoolhouse Rock
-Diablo 1
-WC and then WC2
-Myst
-Some random horror game that I was too chicken to play as a child in the 90’s :stuck_out_tongue:

The list was extensive, and I was so excited to break out each CD and try them all

Are you picking this up? Good. I know you need more deep background but we’re up against it.

The old-school, DOS-based version of Command & Conquer.

First one to really chew through? Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger.

Tenchu Stealth assassins, playstation.

Oof we are going to go with non dos games to not sound super old.

Probably Castles
or Myst
closely followed by Command and Conquer.

Slight tangent, but back shortly after I started playing WoW, a guildmate dinged 85 and was ready to upgrade to MoP. He had to go to 3 different Walmarts to find a hardcopy of MoP. I had managed to d/l the game (I was still on Cata) and I encouraged him to do the same. He insisted he had to have a hardcopy for backup and he wasn’t paying for a “virtual” copy. It’s hard to believe that was only about 10 years ago.

Forgot about Carmen Sandiego! Where in the US was fun too. You needed an almanac!

It’s funny looking back and seeing how many educational games I played when I was young  My dad just watching me, a sucker, learn grammar and geography from a computer before I realized I could slay demons in a run down cathedral

First I ever played was probably Warcraft II. Dad picked that up at a flea market one time way back when. Pretty sure it wasn’t legit, which would honestly be rather incredible for the time - 4x CD drives were only just on the market, never mind CD burners.

First I ever owned was Hi-Octane, Magic Carpet, or Diablo. I don’t recall specifically which, but I do recall being particularly miffed that the demo of Diablo we had ran on Dad’s 486DX-4 but the full release wouldn’t even launch if you didn’t have a Pentium.

First game I ever played on PC was Montezuma’s Revenge. We had 1 PC at my school so we all had to take turns playing it. Don’t remember it too well lol. Then there was the Oregon Trail, that was awesome.

Didn’t have a PC at home until I was a teen I think and the first games I remember playing back then were the old sim games- Sim City, Sim Ant, Sim Farm, etc. Also remember the very first Sims game, that one was actually pretty hard back then haha
