if you’ve played the game as long as I have (launch day, i remember it well) then you have a ton of awesome stories from your days in Azeroth. So, which one of them is your favorite? which one do you tell people the most?
mine is the time i single-handedly won an AV match. if enough people tell their own stories, i’ll tell you mine.
so let’s hear them!

Once upon a time, I was wandering alone in Duskwood. Suddenly, I noticed that I was in combat. But where was my enemy? I turned around and saw Stitches, a humongous abomination, a level SKULL, running towards me at full speed.
I then died and rose again.

I still go back to the day I was questing in Teldrassil on my Worgen and learned after doing all of Worgen start zone and Darkshore that I could look up and down.
I thought the camera was fixed lol

One very long time ago I had a 29 druid that abused WSG due to cat form’s run speed and the fact that you couldn’t get a mount until 30. Once I killed the enemy flag carrier while running the flag myself, and I single handedly won more than a few games. It wasn’t even technically a twink, like bis greens and good to go. It was silly, I’d stealth to the flag, then pop my dash cooldown and cap, pretty much.
In not a lot of time they put mounts at 20, pretty much killing off the character (it was deleted long ago).
I was recently a new WoW player (at start of SL) and I was very confused on how portals worked (I couldn’t tell where they went bc I didnt recognize the zone art and didn’t know there was a tooltip to tell you…)
As a Death Knight, I really wanted to quest in Northrend…so I decided I’d just fly there! From Orgimmar…
Took about 25-30 min of flying before I realized it wasn’t going to happen.
Luckily a more knowledgeable friend logged on and saved my undead bacon by explaining portals.
But I’ll always remember that flight trip…not entirely sure I had maxed out mount speed either.

The BRD group I found one time. We were doing just the one boss you que in for but we had a blast of a time so we decided to run the entire dungeon all the bosses then the last boss.
It was about 3 hours (we took our time) but it was a super fun dungeon. At the end we basically said something along the lines of, “until we meet again” and that was ages ago. I wonder where they are now?

While leveling this priest back around cata I speced discipline and did a lot of random battle ground PVP.
Around like level 14 or so I was doing Eye of the Storm.
At one point I got the entire horde team to chase me into that horse barn, lean to barn, thing on the east side of the map. Every one wanted to be the one that killed the priest back then, probably still true today, idk.
I kept them busy for a good 2-3 minutes or so while they killed me.
While that was going on my team captured all the control point towers and was enroute to capture the flag when I finally died.
Yea disc was OP in looms back in the day.

I thought I could just fly to Vash’jir. That didn’t go well.
It looked so close on the map.

The guild was waiting to pull onyixia and my GF leaned over to kiss me goodbye and I bumped my keyboard and fell into the whelps.
It was a wipe, but folks forgave me when I told them what happened.

I tell this one all the time lol
Back when I was just a little vanilla noob, I got a guild vs guild fight going in the Barrens all by accident.
I was leveling at XR in the Barrens when this group of allies came in and camped all the quest givers. Embarrassingly enough, I decided to hearth back to Org and announce in chat what was going on so that I could drum up some help. Lo and behold someone responded. None other than a raider from one of our Top Guilds, someone you’d see wearing the BiS, sporting the Warlord title… all that crap that was super exciting to a little noob like me. Neat!
So we go back to XR and I proceed to watch Super Elite Mr Raider Guy get camped like he was a rare spawn lol It was something else. After having enough of that, he proceeds to bring in his guild so its a free-for-all raider vs a pvp guild in the middle of XR.
I got swept up in the whole thing and just followed them around. Ngl, I was a little awestruck. I died a lot. But hey I died a raider that day.

My guild’s (and server first) Ragnaros (MC version) kill… entire raid was dropping… I was the last dps standing… getting that last hit as the last healer went OOM.
Good thing that day I messed up and forgot to switch my gear from prot def cap to my dps set on pull. Else we woulda wiped after a few crushing blows.

ok here’s mine, then…
right before TBC launched, the devs were doing balance passes for all the classes. i was playing a nelf rogue at the time and rogues just got their pass. they added shadowstep and cloak of shadows.
so its about a week before TBC was going live, rogues just got their pass and i was really enjoying it. i jump into an AV, take a look at the map and cried a little bit inside. all towers and bunkers were capped and burning, alliance is turtled at the base, horde can’t get across the bridge.
being the AV god that i am and having a fundamental understanding of that map that nobody else does, i know how to fix it. i stealth down to the snowfall graveyard, hot the flag and then wait around till it caps. and i solo’d everything that came to try and cap it back (cloak of shadows and shadowstep were insanely strong back then). graveyard caps, all the dead from the turtle up north start rezzing at snowfall (middle of the field of strife). horde is still trying to get into our base so they aren’t paying attention to what’s going on south of them. the players that rezed at the gy started moving south and before we knew it, we were pulling bosses. horde was still fixated on breaking the turtle so there was nobody down sout in their base trying to wipe us.
we cleared all the minibosses and then killed the main boss. i turned a losing turtle into a winning game because i know that spawn points are the most important things to hold in AV.

I was queuing threes in cataclysm on my warrior. I was playing kfc and ended up queuing into thugonomics playing mage/lock. We lost the game but I remember going back and watching it on thugonomics stream. The mage kept raging because I kept spell reflecting his polys lol

My cow escaped during guilds m progression, on Krosus, so i had to run out and catch my cow, who was much larger than a calf at this point. He was big enough to trample me, if he wanted to, but fortunately he didn’t, and not having a lasso on hand, i looped an extension cord around his neck and led him back into the pen.
I’ll never forget that.

More in EQ than in WoW but I do remember one time a very brave gnome warrior attacked my 5 box setup. What was he expecting? He died.
Then he tried again. Still dead.
After that I think he had enough. The bladestorm kamikaze strategy just wasn’t doing it. Not against SLT and chain healing.
I walked into Goldshire’s inn once.

Back in the old days, when battlegrounds were only populated by people on your server I was in an AV match. At those times AV could last hours and in some cases even persist for days. Youd log out. Sleep. Go back into the same AV match. People have heard all this before.
Anyway at the time there was an Orc High Warlord in full armor/weapon and etc. I dont remember is name sadly. He was sitting on a Frostwolf Howler overlooking the slope that decends from Icewing Bunker. We’d been at a stalemate from this spot for quite a while.
He started to yell across the zone for everybody to leave their positions and join him. That we were going to take stormpike graveyard.
Once most of the raid had arrived we faught off some scattered alliance. Then he rode around a moment on his Howler. Overlooking the troops like a scene from Braveheart. “Mount up! Healers on me! Were taking Stormpike now! FOR THE HORDE!!!”
Im telling you ive never geeked out so hard in my life. The entire raid starts spamming “FOR THE HORDE!!” As we slammed into the alliance frontline like the battle of Helms deep. We took that graveyard and went on to win that game.
Its a shame what AV has become but my memories of this once truly epic battleground are all among my favorite moments in WoW.

“It was a dark and stormy night”. “There I was in a little cafe in Paris, eating bread and hot dogs, waiting to be mustered out, when…”
That’s as far as I’ve gotten so far.

We all got a beat-down from Stitches.
And then, when we hit 40 or 50, we all went back to Duskwood for some sweet, sweet payback. And I bet you remember how good that felt. I know I do.
I also remember the long grind to gather the materials for the Charger quest line back in the day. Worth it, though; the mount was “free” but you had to go through the mill to get it.
