No jokes, no memes, no anything.
Just your friendly reminder that WoW is a skinner box in every way except name.
If you don’t know, I suggest you look it up. Keeping yourself aware of the deeper game that is being played by Blizzard, will make it easier for you to stand up and speak about problems you are having in the game instead of just letting things happen.
Not insulting anybody. Not trolling, not being mean or rude or anything.
Just be aware, and act accordingly aka keep having fun while remembering that YOU, have the power. Not Blizzard. You can, in fact, unsubscribe at any time. You don’t have to be mad or take this anymore. You can subscribe and unsubscribe at will.
If this game were a true skinner box then they’d still have 12+ million subscribers. Therefore, it is either NOT a skinner box, or it is a very poor skinner box.
So we are on both a variable ratio and variable interval schedule? That is harsh. Luckily for us they have no way to throw physical punishment stimuli into the mix.
To each their own. While I’m sure someone will reply that they are offended - don’t know what to say except it’s not meant to be offensive.
I think some people go to deep into this game. I feel bad for anyone that gets so consumed by a past time like a game that they show more stress over it than enjoyment from it.
Work. Relationship issues. Health issues . My faith. That’s the stuff I take seriously and pour my energy into figuring out when there’s issues in them.
I’m not willing to pour that much worry into a game.
The scary thing is how it grips you, and before long, you are pulled into the whole ecosystem.
I have read a bit into the skinner box article before and I’m well aware of it, looking back, I just started playing back around may this year, it was just a sub to test, now it has pushed out all my other hobbies lol, maybe a case of sunk cost fallacy or ‘‘making those $15 worth it and expac price worth it’’
They do in the form of: sometimes, people have to wait literally weeks to get gear or be forced to craft it for thousands of gold.
I think back to the impossible times of Pandaria when my druid didn’t get a single piece of natural loot for six months. Literally, no jokes or memes or exaggeration…my druid, who was raiding and doing all the rep farming needed back in MoP…didn’t get a single piece of natural loot from the moment she hit max level all the way through the first two raids.
I had to use LFR to get a set bonus and even that took nearly three months to get the first piece.
everybody always says it’s impossible, but then when I bring up other things that benefit people they just say “well thats just rng”…people always use RNG as an excuse for the generally poor loot rolls that the majority of people get. It’s not just rng. I have seen RNG. I have played DnD for literally 20 years at this point, trust me when I tell you that I know how obnoxious it is when your Mage who picked the old Tower of Roses battlemage build back in 4th edition…aka walks into a room and deletes CR 16 monsters with ease. For you WoW nerds, imagine your resident mage came into ICC 25 and killed Arthas in 5 spells.
Imagine how mad you would be as an encounter designer to see a mage cast five spells and destroy the second most famous villain in all of WoW history…
That’s RNG though.
So when I say that I didn’t get natural loot drops for almost six months, know that sometimes RNGeezus is rude and won’t hear your prayers or the smacking of your keyboard into your forehead lol.
