You guys take this game way too seriously

Obsessing over a 1% increase to a parse which is a spreadsheet value calcualted from algorithms is not healthy and is completely unnecessary

I usually just press buttons. Haha frost strike go brrr and obliterate go whoosh :grin:

Remember people its a game not a microsoft excel spreadsheet. Try and have a little fun and not get so mad when a boss is pulled before you can pre pot or the lust is 1.25 seconds too late. I promise you will live!

I usually only care about my performance compared to everyone in the raid I’m in. The lust screws everyone over so I’m fine with that. Put early pulls are so infuriating to me if it screws up my pre pot.

Parsing is a guide on how well you are playing your role. People generally don’t prefer sand baggers in any game (real life or not). This is just a game, but parsing adds some competitiveness I suppose. I don’t care about pink parsing, but I at least want orange parse.

So reading your post - you got called out for pulling a boss early. Unless you are the raid lead, your job is to either dps (and let the tank pull when everyone is ready), heal (and let the tank pull when everyone is ready) or tank (and you pull when everyone is ready).

You messed up. Just take whatever lumps were issued to you and learn from it.

If you’re having fun, you’re losing money.

((And my elders wonder why I didn’t want to ‘grow up’. Because adults are no fun. Your shoes are too tight, and you have forgotten how to dance.))

Is it incomprehensible to you that maybe some people have fun by trying to perform the absolute best they can?

People like different things, weird huh?

How ironic, this non-sense coming from a WoW player who appears to have a banking toon and a bunch of alts. Mmmhmmmm

I do find it weird people obsess over PvE that way. I feel like PvE is more forgivable than pvp. It’s not like you’re losing rating or anything. You’re trying to kill a boss… that does the same stuff every engagement. wipe and try again. Not that big of a deal

I am lucky to be in a guild that doesn’t obsess about this stuff and we just have fun. We have plenty of people doing this content for the first time and they are not that great and make mistakes but we get better as a group and they improve as the tier goes on.

It’s nice. If I had someone in my ear talking about parsing I would leave the guild.

bingo.

I enjoy being with people who down a boss for the first time and it be a genuine celebration.

I understand people like serious business only. I just avoid them like the plague.

it’s not about taking game seriously it’s about putting effort in what you’re doing.

I think it’s awesome that guilds like this still exist and a shame that some people look down on them simply for caring about different things. As long as it’s all like minded people that’s great!

On the other hand, as a general note on this thread, it does sound like a maybe accidental or an “I’m impatient” pull happened and the OP got yelled at. Some people do enjoy playing WCLs and if you’re playing with these types it’s best to respect that too.

Well, even my guild doesn’t do that. I think pulling before ready is kinda universally bad. No matter the type of guild.

i put in way too much effort to master my class and spec and i still suck

good for people that can enjoy the game like that i suppose

Just because someone cares how they perform and they want to compete doesn’t mean they take the game too seriously. Competition and performing well is fun and satisfying. Personally I don’t understand why raiding would be fun if you’re not concerned about your dps at all.

I remember back in the day when I first started playing a friend of mine also started playing. She was asking me certain questions about this and that and I didn’t know all the answers so I suggested she check out a website about it. I remember she said something like “I’m not going to spend time on another website for a game…” and I just never understood that. So you’re going to spend your time playing the game, why not try to play your character correctly and play it well?

It’s just a game but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to play the game well.

Perhaps the OP should learn to respect the pull timer.

I don’t think most people “obsess” over it. But optimization is part of the fun for a lot of people like myself, and your “parse” gives you an easy metric to judge performance. Some people just like charts and spreadsheets. It’s just how our minds work.

Just because it’s not something YOU enjoy doesn’t mean its wrong or not fun for someone else.

I think there’s 2 things here. Sure people take the game a bit too seriously.
But they’re still having fun playing it and they can have even more fun by taking it seriously.
Who are you to say what’s fun for someone else?

Some people’s fun is optimization. People take their hobbies seriously, who would have thought

i love how a thread like this gets some people up in arms trying to justify this behavior. If you felt insulted by what OP said thats a you problem.
