Omg I had forgotten that add on. It helped my mage so much with those dayem crystals Id forget to make and remind me. I must really suck and should go back to retail for that reminder…

I didnt cheat and never needed to engage in lazy behaviour centered around mods that were then “broken” as you put it.
Hopefully blizzard will do the same soon here, by fixing it so exploitative conduct against the spirit of the game is shutdown.

Jokes aside - the gatekeeping is strong in this post.
We used addons back then. A lot of addons. Ones that improved the UI. Ones that made decursing much easier. Healing addons, class addons, bag addons, bar addons, stupid addons that added dumb graphics or ones that just killed the griffons on your screen.
Addons have ALWAYS been a thing.
I do remember some people refusing to download anything that helped on bosses as if it was somehow cheating - like… ‘MY MIND IS THE ADDON!!!’ then dying a few seconds into an encounter.

Personally I’ve never really cared much for addons. I’ve used maybe a coordinate addon and maybe Recount at various points. And yet that doesn’t mean I “like” Classic any more than someone that uses 50 addons.
In fact if anything it probably makes me more masochistic. 
No harm in enjoying addons.

From all the forum posts on pserver subreddit and other such websites, I’m pretty sure they all allowed addons.

The only mod i used with any level of frequency was a threat meter that only worked for others if everyone else had it.
More precisely as the MT, I was forced to use it so others could manage thier threat better and the raid leads could gauge performance of individual members. I never bothered having the window up as it was very easy for me to notice a 10 story high mob or boss turn and walk towards a different target.
Apart from that, i tried a few UI mods, but never found one i liked so i never stuck with them.
I did love patch day when i had to wait for everyone else to go update thier mods before we raided, only to have them discover that there was a conflict somewhere with one of them …
