"You can't do that yet" appears constantly after the patch

I can’t find any other report of this happening, none of my alts have it happen to them, and none of my guildies have this, but it’s driving me crazy and in the hopes of finding someone else with the issue I’m posting it here. After the patch, I am getting a red ‘You can’t do that yet’ error in the center of my screen no matter what i’m doing. This still happens if I:

  1. Disable all addons
  2. Unequip all gear
  3. Stash all inventory items
  4. Remove new quests
  5. Clear auras by entering an Arena skirmish

This is happening randomly if I am doing anything, but it always triggers if I equip or unequip a piece of gear without fail. There’s no sound effect but it’s showing up in the middle of my screen. This is on a max level Evoker.

This started happening to me on my warrior. I thought it had something to do with importing talent builds because it stopped for a bit once I loaded a fresh import. It is now happening on my warlock and I cannot get it to stop. SO ANNOYING!

I am getting the same error. I have disabled all addons, it is still happening. Message appears randomly about once every 10 seconds while moving (walking or flying.) It does not appear when my character is stationary.

edit: if I had to guess it seems like it might be related to changing which section of a zone I am in.

Happening to me as well. Very frustrating, and only on 1 out of 5 toons that I have. Separate thread below as well:

I thought at first it was only related to switching talent profiles, but then it started when I was simply standing still. I hope this has landed on the dev team’s desk as something to fix. It’s very frustrating.

I was seeing it intermittently on my MM hunter (this toon).

No special circumstances. Just while walking (or riding) around in the game world.

I just noticed this bug on my human paladin. Have not seen it on any other characters (yet).

I currently am flying her around the Isle of Dorn to gather ore. Every few seconds, the error, “You can’t do that yet”, pops up. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing. It happens no matter if I’m flying, standing on the ground, or mining.

I have tried: disabling addons, logging out and back in again, clearing cache, etc. All the usual suspects. Nothing has fixed it.

Pretty sure this is tied into talents somehow. It didn’t start for me until importing new talent builds. Weird that it is only on 3 of my toons.

I might guess that not every class or spec has a talent which passively attempts to do… something… all the time instead of whenever it might be appropriate.

But I’m not going to study talent charts to try to figure it out. It doesn’t bug me enough for that much effort.

i am having the same problem on all of my toons so far. even with all addons disabled. its random and non-stop. but i can make it happen by walking into or out of a building. basically whenever i transition between indoors and outdoors.

Same here on both hunter and warrior played since patch. Thought it was an addon but nope.

Same issue here. Disabled everything to no avail. Only started up with the new patch and it’s driving me crazy, haha. I read it may be tied to importing - one character imported the entire build to try it out and I’m getting the error, other one I completed the build half manually and half import (also newly leveled character,) who does not get the constant spam.

Add me to the list. The char with the issue is a rogue that has been active since vanilla. Never exported or imported talents, and changing specs was one of the first things I tried to troubleshoot the problem (to rule out talents and skills after gear, addons, and cache). I also did an /etrace, the message always seems to share a timestamp with an UPDATE_SHAPESHIFT_COOLDOWN event. Didn’t try that out in the wild though (too much stuff to comb through), only in Orgrimmar, so my testing may be somewhat biased (i.e. could be a false positive).

EDIT: so I found another character with this problem, and on firing up /etrace, I realised that I had some filters on from a previous session… The above was definitely a false positive. I did find something peculiar though, and that’s shared across both chars:

UNIT_SPELLCAST_FAILED "player", "Cast-4-3783-2444-6015-385336-[10digits]", 385336

This is always the first thing that happens on the timestamp of the error. Obviously the [10digits] in the CastGUID (the middle argument) is different every time, but everything else is the same, including the spell id, for which wowhead lists:

I can’t really think of anything that these chars share that other chars I have do not. Tried a few things, checked some other specific chars of mine, no luck - they’re not getting the bug. I did visit Hek just for kicks, but sadly that didn’t do anything. =P

I am getting this message as well and on multiple characters. It always happens when I am moving, whether on foot or on a mount. It even happened when I got on a normal flight master mount to fly from one spot to another. My hands weren’t touching the keyboard or mouse, yet the message popped up several times during the flight
