Yogg-Saron “God of Death”

At this point god knows, Blizzard has retconned the lore so much that its just a mess at this point.

Just look at Sylvanas…

Truth…

I will be patiently awaiting the conclusion of this expansion and will be keeping an eye on this conversation for a later date.

Yeah when Shadowlands was originally announced, I was really hoping the Jailer would be as described, “a boogeyman” of sorts who barely anyone or anything knew about. But I’m not sure why they even said that because the Jailer has been at the forefront of everything, we know his true name, he straight up shows up in first 5 minutes unchained, and everyone in Shadowlands pretty much knows about him it seems? Idk where they got the whole boogeyman in the dark thing from. I was also hoping he’d be more frightening and scary sort of like how he appeared in that original trailer we saw. A godly foreboding entity.

One that deserves a rematch…

That was his concept art design, before they went with his final design, they used that one cause his design wasnt finished yet.

Yeah. he seem less intimidating and more whiny to me.

Hopefully won’t derail this thread but what was the difference between Death and Void magic again? To me they both occupy the same space, absence of life, but maybe there’s a difference?

Is Death magic the opposite of Light magic and the void is just the absence of everything? Still feels too similar.

Yogg could have had something to do with Northrend veil between the Shadowlands weaker. He might have been part of the initial invasion force into Bastion. Yogg seems to have a connection to Life. He created the curse of Flesh(somehow) and also infected the Emerald dream and World trees.

Galakrond one of the most powerful Dragons to ever live randomly turned into a Super Zombie Dragon in Northrend with powers of similar to the Helm Domination.(perhaps LK trial run by the Dreadlords/Jailer)

His relationship with Arthas was supposed to be expanded on but for some reason Blizz never got around to it. Most likely Yogg was just used as livestock/building materials to enhance the power of the Scourge. The LK was making his army cause mental fear/insanity with the Power of Yogg through his blood. Which I am sure wouldn’t make Yogg very happy. His Iron army vs the Scourge could have been pretty sweet if we didn’t show up and kill both sides.

All places, all things have souls… All souls can be devoured…

Void and Light are the Two primal powers. When they clashed it created all the other powers. So in a way they overlap.

Void=Light
(One path=No paths) The light wants nothing to change. The void wants everything to be consumed/destroyed.
Life=Death
(Feed/Consume=Consume/Feed) It might be retconned but thats currently how we understand it. They both use each other and only the Jailer is wanting to keep everything.
Arcane=Fel
(Order=Chaos)Structure and understanding of all things vs Madness, destruction and Death.
There are many sub sections that mix and match to create new mini schools of magic.

The funny thing about all the primal powers though is they all can consume souls. Souls most likely a mixture of all the primal powers so they give a massive power boosts. How the powers use them is different though. Light devouring souls keeps them nice and Bright. Void if they eat enough can open holes into our realm. Fel magic burns them away as fuel to empower themselves/machines. Even arcane can use them as we saw with Illidan in the war of the Ancients. Death uses them for everything. I dont have any Life examples but life itself seems to use spirit energy of planets and too much life will kill a planet like what happened to Draenor.

Death is closest to the Void but it does things a bit differently. Death and Life are the only powers that have a symbiotic relationship. With Shadowlands we see that without souls of Mortals the Machine of Death is effectively worthless and nothing even works in the Realm of Death.(if its even the true way death should work)

Entropy will keep moving forward. Everything in the Universe WILL die which makes Death the enemy of all the great powers because no matter what happens Death will be the only one left with time. Even though it wont exist for long after everything else dies.

Thank you for the thorough explanation, makes sense to me here now!

old lore does not matter. Current writers never even read it

Can we join yogg in killing the Jailor?

More or less, technically speaking, they are all enemies, Light, Void, Arcane, Fel, Life and Death, they just forge alliances every now and then. But you are right, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jailer made a temporary Alliance with the Void to retake the Shadowlands from the clutches of the Arcane.

Yogg isn’t any god of death. It used that self-appointed title to incite fear. It’s nothing more than a result of it’s own ego. So many mouths, so many lies.

C’thun would like a word. So would N’zoth. And, you know, Yogg-Saron.

The Old Gods couldn’t be killed on Azeroth in the same way that demons, and various void entities, cannot be “killed” on Azeroth. We destroy their physical manifestation which sends their essence / true form / soul / whatever back to the Void, which is where it came from (for demons they were sent back to the Nether, but w/e).

I’ve little doubt that we’re going to see Yogg again in the future, but it won’t be here. Shadowlands is Scourge Invasion 2 - The Quest for More Money.

Oh, you better watch out
You better go hide
You better freak out

I’m telling you why

Yogg-Saron is coming to town…something something… mouths…tentacles…strangled cries of madness and terror…

Does everyone forget that this company ignores,breaks and has a tendency to rewrite history. If they want something or someone they just do as they please.

Will the Scourge be mining Saronite like last time?

What’s Tor’Ghast made out of? I’d bet it’s Saronite. Who took the Jailers heart? I bet it’s Yogg…
