Legion was the last expansion I really played, I skipped BFA and Shadowlands (thank god) and came in at the start of the last season of DF because I saw Metzen had returned to the fold. When they announced 3 expansions in advanced I had thought they would 3 full sized expansions not 3 bite sized ones that will end up being the same size as a regular expansion combined. (EDIT: Since this line is clearly confusing people into believing I’m saying there’s not enough content, I’m referring to length of the campaign/story. In the next paragraph I compare it to legions campaign)
I did the main story line, kind of on autopilot as I normally do, expecting it to take 10-15 hours to complete and hit max level which to my knowledge used to be the norm. I remember during legion you had to do the main quest lines in every zone to hit max level… which you could do in any order (that was the innovation at the time). About 6 hours in I’m greeted to a “You beat the campaign” message and just dinged 76. You then have to wait until level 80 to do the rest of the campaign… which after doing it I don’t really understand why??? The questing/leveling this time around just seems extremely lazy and you spend virtually no time in zones at all, just do a few basic (often repeated) quests and move on.
After I dinged 80 and finished the campaign I went around and did some other things before endlessly spamming the same 2 dungeons trying to get gear since the haste/mastery gear is not spread out very well across them. I did the super bloom, I mean uh the theater event, and the other weeklies that show up on the map. I just dont see any innovation here at all… Delves are literally just torghast from what I can tell with different rewards. I understand not all of them were successes but expansions used to come with new unique features… stuff like order halls (which was effectively reused in shadowlands to be fair), garrisons, M+, ect. We just get delves and a small addition to the talent tree which the most you get out of that is like 3 different choices.
It really does feel like blizzard just took whatever TWW was supposed to be and broke it up into 3 smaller chunks just to make more money and do less work. I’m sure Metzen has nothing to do with this but it is really disappointing to say the least.
EDIT: It’s been a common recurring theme in responses that it’s my fault I didnt enjoy the campaign or story because I rushed through it, despite doing this for every expansion i’ve ever played and somehow still getting enjoyment out of them and actually remembering the story unlike TWW. I have heard your feedback and will playthrough the campaign again and make sure I do most of the side quests this time.

You don’t reach level 80 just doing the ‘main story’ (aka. the story campaign is it’s now called) as you’re saying you did, yes it WAS the norm but not now.

I’ve been doing all the side quests before leaving each zone and it’s making it extremely enjoyable! Just hit 80 this morning and haven’t even touched Hallowfall lol.
I’m loving the questing content this time around!

Because you beelined the campaign lol
They deliberately shortened the main campaign this time, by request, because of the players that want to get through it and unlock the endgame stuff. There’s a metric ton of side quests though, if you want to spend time in a zone you can. You chose not to
If you don’t care about the story and questing experience - which if you did it “on autopilot” it sounds like you don’t - then just wait for the endgame to actually start. None of that is actually released for another week and a half.

There’s your answer. You’ve been served. Briselody just served you.
“I didn’t pay attention and rushed through. This is boring. New xpac sucks.”
Thank you for your contribution to the forum discourse.

They are 3 full expansions, I don’t know why you think otherwise. He said world soul saga will be done 2030, 6 years for 3 expansions = 2 years per expansion, the normal amount of time.
People complained the MSQ was too long so they made it shorter but provided more side quests.

Honestly, fren, I think you played yourself.
You gotta savor it.
Eating too fast will give you indigestion.

To be fair i rushed through every expansion, yet I remember Legion, WOD, MOP, and WotLK having much better campaigns that would get you to max level even autopiloting.

They’re all about the same since MoP. Its been questing on rails.

So rushing through and not paying attention to the story leaves one feeling bored and disappointed in the story of the expansion…
Who’d of thought. *Surprised Pikachu face"
Sure compared to other expansions it had maybe more cutscenes that made the story engaging or interesting…
Tbf I didn’t really feel much threat to the baddie ATM.

so to me it sounds like your main complaint is that the content you intentionally skipped through was short because you skipped through it.

You are a gentleman for saying it.
For me the campaign is just the appetizer.
The real game is the PVP.
You will never completely master it and get bored.

They’re going to be the same size as Dragonflight was.
That means 2 major content patches after this current one, 2 minor (x.x.5) patches between them and a possible Season 4. Dragonflight was almost two years in length.
None of these Worldsoul expansions are “bite size” unless you think DF was bite size.
LMAO, I didn’t realize delves have 6 levels to them, culminating to a boss. I must be doing delves wrong.
You said in your opening that you skipped Shadowlands, so I’m guessing you’re just going off what other people said of Torghast? Delves aren’t a required weekly grind, like Torghast was, Delves don’t give you a ton of anima powers that can make or break the entire run, and Delves aren’t nearly as long as Torghast was.
But yeah, “literally copy and paste torghast” lmao.

Then you are smarter than me.
But I am having more fun.
@OP my initial perception of the opening zone was solidly “meh”, but once you go underground it’s like a whole new game. Zones are vibrant and imaginative, quests (and embedded quests!) are cool and there is actually an intriguing story. There’s character development and yet you never feel like you are not able to diverge from a necessar quest path to avoid a dead end.
In short, give it a try with a renewed open mind. I was quite literally blown away once underground, and while the opening zone still strikes me as a bit of SL/DF hangover, the sub-terranean expac is out of control good.
definitely agree
tww is slop, and it flopped. end of story

People seem caught up on the fact I rushed through the campaign, like i always do, and am disappointed theres nothing really in this expansion thats new.
The expansion feels par for the course. Everytime they did something new, it was mixed. Part was hated, part was loved.
Legion - Class Halls (amazing) but then they started Borrowed Power systems. Another grind to pad time out. M+ was solid (thus why it stuck around.)
BfA - they took players feedback about Borrowed Power and thought we just hated weapons. So they gave us azerite gear… Island Expeditions, you loved them or hated them.
SL - Torghast. Would have been good, if it wasn’t mandatory. Covenants… a new rep grind and useful skills.
DF - Big World Events (I can’t think of anything new besides that, I’m probably missing stuff). They’re still here, but so far, not as many.
TWW - Delves. Torghast in a way, but by no means mandatory.
Story though, we’re not done yet. By the time it ends, it will indeed get you to 80 and probably be 8-10hrs long (just a guess). But others have touched on why the story is shorter, so I won’t delve into that.
