Yet Another Flying in Northrend Question

I have been told that I will be able to fly in Northrend upon arrival in Valiance Keep. When I played WotLK back in the day, we couldn’t fly until level 77 (as I seem to recall). But this other player assures me flying will be available from the get go.

Is this correct?

No.

They trolling u . U can’t fly from the get go

First character, 77+ once you have an 80 you can buy a BoA tome of cold weather flying to send to your alts. This tome is usable at 68.

I appreciate the replies and they all are as I remember. But, maybe because I would like to believe Blizzard has modified the availability of flying in Northrend, I have two additional thoughts:

  1. When TBC Classic was first released, we were allowed to fly right away. No waiting till 70. So, could Blizzard be doing the same for the release of WotLK?
  2. When I brought your responses to the attention of my friend who told me about this, he showed me an in-game letter he received from an NPC named Maigra (i.e., from Blizz) offering Northrend flying for the expected price - 5000 gold for the speed (if you don’t already have it) and 1000 gold for Cold Weather flying.

Below, I’ve quoted the main points in the letter:

“Hey there, Lass! Looking to learn Artisan Riding for faster flying mounts? Then visit me at Valiance Keep in Borean Tundra.”

[Not quoted are three paragraphs about the price and from whom one can purchase the skill]

“If you can’t make it to Northrend, visit Hargen Bronzewing at Honor Hold in Hellfire Peninsula.”

What is compelling to me is that this was sent to my friend, a fresh (boosted) 70, about a week ago now. Why send such a letter if flying in Northrend at level 70 was not on the table?

Thoughts,

TBC classic did not allow flying before 70. That was only changed recently for prepatch.

what? You absolutely had to get to 70 to fly on release. Even on alts.

Because you can fly still in Outland from 60-70. That letter is just informing you that “Hey there is a new place you can train/buy flying mounts in Northrend”.

You still need Cold weather flying to actually fly in NR even if you train and buy the mounts in Valiance keep.

Artisan flying is fast flying and completely independent of cold weather flying so even if you went to her and paid the 5k for fast flying you still wont be flying in northrend till 77 when you can buy cold weather flying for 1k.

To be fair to OP, you can tell they really wanted to believe they would get flying at 70 when they entered Northrend.

But no, facts being what they are, you will not get flying until 77 on your main character.

First character needs level 77 to fly.

Once you hit 80, you can buy a BOA book and send to your alts that lets them fly at level 68.
