This mechanic is legit hurting the people that need help the most. Why decrease XP for someone because they needed to run away to mana regen or to do something else it is plain mental. Fix your game.
Is that a thing? Good. Sounds like it discourages buying boosts from Mages. Too bad the XP doesn’t go to 0 instead of just decreasing.
if you aren’t even hitting a mob once in 40 seconds why do you even deserve exp bro
If this gimps boosts, I’m all for it.
While they’re at it, the value of drops from dungeons should be proportional to the number of players in the instance.
Exactly, this sounds like a mechanic to reduce mage boosting and also reduce to abuse of mob tag leveling where a low level tags the mob, but a level 70 kills it.
Sorry OP, but it is for the greater good. Learn to account for it in your pulling and leveling. 40 sec. is more than enough time to take care of in-combat needs.
Won’t someone think of the poor mana regen? lol
Also, why are the “people that need help the most” unable to attack mobs for 40 seconds?
Is this a mechanic? because it’s news to me after playing for ~15 years, seems like something that would have zero impact on anyone other than AoE boosters.
What are you talking about? Is this an actual recent change, do you have a link?
Honestly man, AE farming went on way way way too long.
Lol what???

The only AE farm I can think of where you might go 40 seconds without hitting the mob would be in Mara, and maybe ZG. Absolutely no world AE farms are or even could be affected, ZF definitely wasn’t (just finished doing a few rounds of that myself), and none of the lower dungeons are big enough for that much of a time gap.
No idea where OP even got the idea that there was a nerf.
This post is based on 0 evidence.
This is nothing new. The reduced XP has been in the game since the start of classic 2 years ago. If anything it’s been changed to be more lenient to boosters. For Classic the xp nerf came if you went 15+ seconds without damaging a mob, not 40. So maybe thank blizzard if it’s actually Been changed to 40.
The way it works is based on a mobs remaining Hp percentage when you stop attacking. Say you damage a mob to 25% HP and the. Stop attacking for 40 seconds, the mobs total XP available will drop from 100% to 25% causing you to miss out on 75% of the XP.
But let’s be real. Why would you ever go 40 seconds without damaging a mob? The mana rule is 5 seconds to get mana to begin regenning at normal rates. 2 or 3 ticks should be enough for at least 1 spell at the very least.
does this effect(affect? english noun/verb
) healers that do zero damage in dungeon groups?
Whoa… you know what I just realized… blizzard did this to edge out the competition…
Where did you obtain the info? I’m curious about it.
Also things like wanding or auto-attacking still exist which don’t break 5sr regen. If you are just standing there you are mooching.
This has existed forever and the time frame is so lenient that it is difficult to actually have it be an issue. At worst it should only be causing you to lose like 1-2% exp from the damage caused when doing the pulling.
yes but if you are a clothy fighting an elite you cant manage to melee attack or wand because the mob will kill you in few hits so your best course of action is to run and kite them as long as you can. For instance, watching SP boosters XP get hindered if the wall pathing method doesn’t work the mobs then run far away without you getting the chance to hit the mobs.
oh god, are you saying that the SP boosters aren’t getting full XP?
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize how awful this was. Blizz, fix this immediatelly!
