Also Azshara, Sylvanas, Onyxia, Warlord Zaela, and others say hello.
Totally agree.
You mean the chick whose gunna be a lot pinata in the first raid?
She will prolly survive but you are discrediting some of the great female villains out there like Azshara, Onyxia, whitemane, Vanessa, Yrel (shes a coming don’t you worry, etc…
Don’t get me wrong, Xalatath can whisper sweet nothing’s into my ear for the entire xpac but she is far from the first female villain.
Exactly but maybe with the names of already existing female villians but the basic idea stands.
Like sure void chick is the “first” if we just don’t count all the other ones before her.
If anything, villain elf ladies are kinda reused a lot.
Azshara, Lady Vashj (well, not so much since her villainess was always as a naga), Sylvanas, Elisande…
The whole thing with the primalists was the best chance to bring Magatha Grimtotem back in, instead we get her disciple or who ever that was.
Bet you were a loyalist!
I thought so too until my wife retired from her job.
You missed 3 well known females
Queen Azshara/Onyxia/Sylvanas
- Xal’atath is not the first “true female villain” in WoW
- Xal’atath is not a female
In order to be female, the first prerequisite is to be a member of a sexually-reproducing species. As far as we know, Old Gods don’t reproduce sexually. They may not reproduce at all, since they were “created” (somehow?) by the Void Lords. It could be that every Old God is a custom-made weapon of the Void Lords created individually with no biological reproduction at all. They do create life spontaneously, though (as shown with the Aqir) and that spontaneously-created life does seem to reproduce sexually, to some degree.
But Xal’atath is, in my view, not a female by any reasonable definition. We say “she” because she presents with a voice that is feminine to human ears, and is currently possessing a dead elf woman. But Xal’atath is in actuality no more a “female” than Pazuzu from the Exorcist is a female.
I think people don’t give Azshara enough credit as a great villain. It’s so easy to go in one direction (“Fyrakk like burn stuff good!!!”) or the other (“I’m a victim of my tragic past!”). Azshara was a great middle ground and had much more believable flaws. She thought she was the best ever, but she actually WAS the best ever. She didn’t want to destroy the world or even go out of her way to hurt people, she wasn’t a sadist, she was just a peak narcissist and wanted to be worshipped. She wanted her whole kingdom, and all the people in it, to prosper, because ruling a prosperous, powerful nation with prosperous, happy people would be a testament to her greatness. If she hadn’t accidentally bitten off more than she could chew in her pride, she might well still be ruling most of Azeroth today, and be thought of lovingly as the greatest ruler the elves had ever had. The Warbringers: Azshara cinematic was golden. She was more than willing to put herself in danger, straining to hold back the whole ocean and protect her people, as long as her people saw it and praised her for it.
robbing an orphanage doesn’t make you a villain.
it just makes you mean.
Onyxia, Azshara, Whitemane, Elisande, Sinestra, Raszageth… those are just the first that come to mind.
This thread is amazing lmao
Onyxia, Azshara, Eonar (everything about her is fishy, so imma add her to the list), Sylvannas, Raszageth ???
Not really a “disguise,” but a vessel, one that she borrowed from a once alive Thalassian elf that the Champion of Azeroth definitely did not kill.
first " TRUE " female character.
idk i think we cant apply gender to the cosmic horror that just so happens to inhabit the form of a female void elf corpse we supplied xalatath
Also they can totally pull off Xal’atath becoming an unlikely ally in the future.
Priests already wielded her in legion after all.
IMO Azshara is the best woman villain in this series and this isn’t my nelf bias speaking
