Sorry about this. I know someone who kept rats who eventually stopped because of these reasons. The creatures can just die or get really sick one day all of a sudden with little warning. :frowning:

The curse of all rodents.

Hamsters in particular are VERY prone to numerous ailments because most of them are badly inbred so it’s good to expect that from the outset.

At least I tell myself I’m ready for it but when I lost my hybrid dwarf Juniper last year due to a fast growing tumor, well. It hurt a lot more than I expected it to.

Sorry for your loss :frowning: Rodents are smart little guys and all have their own personalities, they’re so fun but so fragile.

I know it’s so sad. Our last hamsters were dwarfs. The very last one, Cotton - named after a cotton ball, made it a little over 3 years. I was amazed. She was a sweet little girl. But I don’t know if we can ever have them again. I get too attached.

Didn’t have hamsters but I had pet rats for a while and I understand the feeling. Wonderful pets, they’re basically like small dogs. I was cuddling one of my senior girls one night while working on a paper, placed her back in her enclosure all happy with a treat, checked on her in the morning and she was gone.

Rodents make wonderful pets but saying goodbye every 2-3 years is rough. I imagine it’s even shorter with hamsters.

3 years is positively ancient for a hamster. You must have given her a wonderful life. :hugs:

It depends on whether your hamster comes from a pet store or an ehtical breeder with credentials–and I learned the hard way with my first syrian hamster that just because a breeder claims to be ethical doesn’t mean anything if they can’t prove it.

At any rate, pet store hamsters (and I would assume rats and mice as well) come from rodent mills that… well, anyone here who’s heard of them can imagine the conditions they operate under. I’m amazed my pet store syrian Snowpuff is so chill and gentle given where he came from.

The new DDO 64 Bit server launched yesterday but it became a disaster. Apparently the distribution of players was wonky and it was jamming players into one instance isntead of distributing them properly. This caused horrendous lag which ironically the new server was built to help combat as the game has been running on 32 bit servers for the entirety of its lifespan.

During testing there was just enough room that this lag problem didn’t crop up as not enough players went through with the testing, meaning this problem went unnoticed until it got pushed to life. Definitely sucks, I was excited for it as it also has a brand new event tied to it.

Lanterns in the Mists where the mists of ravenloft seem to be creeping into the other planes as mistwalkers, super powerful champion enemies spawn randomly and need to be defeated during dungeons. Lots of cool rewards. Pretty nifty stuff it was building up to be. Hopefully they get those issues resolved soon.

My brother sat on our hamster and that was the end of hamsters in the house.

I hope so. We tried really hard. I try for all my critters.

Picked up new watercolor pencils today from a local store. A friend gave me one of those relaxing adult coloring books for my birthday so I wanted something special to color it. Of course, being that particular friend, each page is a cat showing off their starfish butt, so it’ll be a chuckle every time. :upside_down_face:

I’m trying to psych myself up to visit the town where they filmed Halloweentown this weekend, since apparently they go all out for the holiday. But I’ve just been so tired and in perpetual hermit mode that it’s hard to break the habit of sitting around doing nothing on my days off.

I had to google that out of curiosity and apparently cat butt coloring books are a whole genre lmao.

Helped someone with directions this morning, their English was very limited and the bus driver was having a hard time understanding. I hope they make it to their destination

We moved yesterday. New apartment is on the third floor, yesterday sucked. None of the animals has “relieved” themselves some place they aren’t supposed to, and no one has thrown up. So life is good right now. Oh and my “office” area has an awesome view of the river and the park. I am watching people walk and bike from the comfort of a chair and air conditioning.

Oh, yes. My friend was rather pleased with themselves and I’ve been threatened told to expect a new cat butt coloring book every year. I better get to coloring.

Curse Games Workshop. I finally decide to start dipping my toes back into 40k after bouncing off hard with Aeldari by going for Imperial Agents and they reveal the new Fire Dragon Phoenix Lord model…and he is MAGNIFICENT.

Returning to this character (and taurenizing him!) I discover I had previously put this song down as a descriptor for him and I can’t for the life of me imagine why. Maybe the broader sense of keeping painful secrets.

I don’t hate it. Not a bad song at all.

What are people listening to these days?

I’m not normally a country guy but this one sparks amazing stories in my head.
