wrongfully/Over Punished for saying removed|20day suspension ONLY MAX be Chat restricted/silenced

Your other post for reference.

I will just quote myself:

The original rules for WoW have always prohibited the sort of language you used. It does not matter if you direct it towards someone or not, you can’t use that language. Context does NOT matter, and never has. It only matters that other players reported you and that the chat logs contained words we are not allowed to use. Which you freely admit you did.

2004

Original User Manual from 2004 https://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms/template_resource/LO0VQ46XB1281555957773363.pdf - which has the EULA at the end. It points to the requirements for accepting Terms of Use with the website for it. I selected the first archived Wayback Machine TOU for WoW from 2004. Yes, it included sexual/body part references, hateful names and speech as well as profanity, masked profanity, spam, etc.

B. Rules Related to “Chat” and Interaction With Other Users.

Communicating with other Users and Blizzard Entertainment representatives is an integral part of World of Warcraft and is referred to in this document as “Chat.” Your Chats may be subject to review, modification, and deletion without notice by Blizzard Entertainment. Additionally, you hereby acknowledge that Blizzard Entertainment is under no obligation to monitor Chat and you engage in Chat at your own risk. When engaging in Chat in World of Warcraft, or otherwise utilizing World of Warcraft, you may not:

  • (i) Transmit or post sexually explicit images or other content or language which in the sole discretion of Blizzard Entertainment is deemed to be offensive; nor shall you transmit any unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable content or language, nor may you use a misspelling or an alternative spelling to circumvent the content and language restrictions listed above;

Further, the same code of conduct applies to all Blizzard games and platforms. That includes the forums, and always has. If you can’t say it in game, you can’t say it on the forums.

They don’t have an auto flag system yet. They depend on other players reporting you which captures the name, server, time, chat channel, and chat logs. A GM takes it from there.

That you are happy with that is why they did away with it. It did not work to curb the behavior and make people STOP doing it. A year or two ago they changed it back to Suspensions. Silence is now a 1 week penalty for a first offense. Past that, they are issuing Suspensions. Those seem to have more impact on players and gets their attention - they are less likely repeat the behavior.

Your Suspension duration means this is at least your 4th or 5th account action for a chat infraction. They will continue to get longer each time, up to license closure.

That it progressed to a punishment likely means this wasn’t the first time, but how do you know this was the only reason? Good luck with the appeal, no matter what happens to this thread.

Yes, to protect kids or others who don’t want to see people violate the rules. Such has always been the case.

More time warp for you.

That continues to be true today

Mature Language Filter (aka The Profanity Filter)

  • This can be activated within your Interface Options: Main menu (ESC key by default) Click Interface > Social and check - Mature Language Filter.

  • Once enabled, all inappropriate words in our profanity database will be filtered and masked to appear as jumbled characters, such as ‘*##@&’.

Note: The filter does not excuse the language used. The filter serves as a temporary shield, to help parents of minors and others who do not wish to see it, to block it. Our policies prohibit the use of both clear and masked inappropriate language.

I have not even had coffee yet and there is nonsense afoot! Thankfully I have that in a document on my PC. I still can’t get over that people think there are somehow loopholes around things.

Speaking of, I need to feed the furballs and get that coffee going.

Comfy beverages for all and good morning!

There is no auto flag system! You got reported by a fellow player

What the hell is an auto-flag? If a comment you’ve made got flagged, then it means someone reported the comment.

the fact that you got actioned simply means one report was looked at.

You violated the tos and earned 20 days enjoy!

X for Doubt.

Seriously, if you were a Customer Support Representative for Blizzard, then you’ve would’ve known all the rules and what not to say in game, or within the forums. Blizzard doesn’t give special exemption to anyone including there own employees for breaching the End-User License Agreements, the Terms of Use, or the Code of Conducts.

I am sorry, but no you can’t. You don’t have Blizzard’s code because they don’t have an AI monitoring chat yet. You got reported by your fellow players. That captures the char-server, time/channel, and chat logs.

Second, I don’t engage in any sort of link sharing with strangers. You don’t have that sort of code though because it does not exist.

You could never use that language in public channels and have always been subject to penalties if you got reported.

It has been 20 years. By now most people know the rules, even if - like you - they don’t like them.

You have been penalized before so this is not your first time through this. I am sorry the first penalties were not taken as the behavior correction they were intended.

Your license will be closed if you continue to accumulate penalties on it. You really might want to keep your colorful language to your Discord.

Yeah no.

They depend on reports. Reports that capture the chat logs. Those logs do get keyword flagged (I think) after being reported to highlight things the GMs may wish to see and review. That keyword highlight does not happen without being reported first.

If you actually worked for Blizzard (which I admit I doubt) then you would know that. Further, they sure as heck did not lay off 5k people and you were not CS for them.

I have been playing since 2004. I have been an MVP longer than you have played. I have also actually been to Blizz and sat down with the system. I do have insight into some of this that is not public.

Your report was not false. The language you used has always been against the rules. Again, you would know that if you knew anything about the Blizzard EULA, past or present.

Repeating the offense in the forum is also a no-no.

And the biggest punishment possible is account closure.

Profanity can fall under Communication in the In-Game Code of Conduct:

Communication

When participating in communication of any kind (chat, voice communication, group finder), you are responsible for how you express yourself. You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others.

Hate speech and discriminatory language is inappropriate, as is any obscene or disruptive language. Threatening or harassing another player is always unacceptable, regardless of language used. Violating any of these expectations will result in account restrictions. More serious and repeated violations will result in greater restrictions.

Communication does cover a lot of things, and isn’t just limited to what is said in the Code of Conduct.

EDIT: I would suggest what Vorsol has said, and appeal the decision by submitting a ticket. How ever, keep in mind, Blizzard would look at everything, and since you have used Profanity, they will be unlikely to reverse the decision.

File an appeal and wait for your answer. This is not an appeal but could risk your forum account

Here’s some blue posts on the matter, referring both in-game and on the forums for the topic at hand.

It’s been linked already. IMO, this will more than likely stand if you appeal. At this point we should let this thread go, one of the blues will lock it as it’s going in circles.
