Wrong items received in Emissary Quest cache

Yesterday, a guildie did an Emissary Quest turn in (specialization Brewmaster) and received a one-handed weapon as a reward. For those who don’t know, Brewmaster monks can’t use one-handed weapons. Today, I was running on my monk (also set my specialization as Brewmaster) and turned in my Emissary quest and received an off-hand with intellect (obviously for a Mistweaver). Now, I double-checked immediately to make sure that I had my loot spec set for Brewmaster and it was set for Brewmaster monk. So, I’m wondering is this a problem that is occurring simply with monks? Simply with Brewmasters? Or, are the Emissary quest turn ins glitched at the moment? If so, can we, as customers expect to receive the proper reward? If not, what is the point of having the ability to set specific loot specializations if the table is going to randomize the loot that one gets anyway? A little clarification on the subject would be appreciated.

I think it’s loot for your class, not spec.

Loot is indeed class based. WW monks can use 1 handers, Sorry it wasn’t what you wanted for your brewmaster but hopefully the next one will be for your spec.

what did the quest specifically state was the reward, typically if you mouse over the emissary quest on the map section it will state what the reward is, and a lot of the rewards are not spec specific.

ok on 2 of my chars both did the 370 alliance war effort cache quest 1st char Pandosan fury warrior gets a 365 shield ? (fury does not use shield and loot was on fury) and Lelianerys got a 355 piece from a 370 cache? why is ther such a difference from what is expected?

Loot spec is intended to bias dungeons and raid drops.

So the first part was answered above. It specifically says a loot cache. That means ANYTHING the toon can equip. In any capacity. That is why you got a shield.

As for the second one, you most likely got a 355 piece of gear because you are not above the threshold to receive 370 yet. You just didn’t notice that toon had a reward of 370.

The ilevel of the reward is not static, it changes based on your ilevel. This guy and my mage get 370 gear. My Demon Hunter on the other hand, though I have not looked, would be very surprised if it was not 340. Maybe 355, but I don’t even think that yet.

As the others mentioned, the items you may get with the Emissary rewards are based on class, not a specific spec. That said, unlike Legion, In Battle for Azeroth you should be able to see what the reward is prior to completing the Emissary quests. You just need to open your map and hover over the particular Emissary mission. That way you can decide ahead of time if it is worth completing it.

The “quest” was the daily (I apologize for not being clear). I completed my 4 and turned in for my 370 cache and artifact power (don’t remember how much – I don’t even pay attn to that anymore) and received the off-hand.

So, it’s basically been just dumb luck that every toon I have (I have 4 120s atm) has never gotten a cache from a daily that has been for a spec other than the one I was loot spec’d for any time I’ve turned them in…

Lady Luck has most definitely smiled upon you, it would seem.

lol Apparently so… Now, if she’d just get me that million dollars and the gf I’d be set.

Also bear in mind, there is a difference. Some, not a lot, say cache. A lot say Azerite armor, or something to that affect. Or at least they did. I don’t know if they do now or not to be honest. But they did.

Edit: Also because I just noticed this. Drag your cursor across the text you want to quote. When you release it there will be a little quote icon you can click. It will properly set up the quote for you already, no formatting needed. Hope that helps some too

but the point is why does specifically state in the daily emissary quest “370 cache” if you wont get a 370 piece? isnt that false advertising?

it’s not…not in any legal sense

I’ve yet to see a case where this actually happened that wasn’t due to someone having an addon modifying the stock UI.

It doesn’t. It specifies an ilevel, based upon your ilevel. My Shaman and Mage both got a 370 item. My Demon Hunter, on the other hand, has an ilevel of 331. His emissary cache said I would get a 345 piece of gear. I did indeed get a 345 piece of gear.

I would put serious odds on that the OP looked at the first emissary and it indeed rewarded a 370. The second time around, the toon had a lower ilevel. The OP simply did not notice the lower reward. It is a simple human mistake. The fact the OP has posted a few more times, and said nothing about being 100% positive it said 370. This leads me to believe the OP acknowledges the possibility they simply did not notice the difference.

You received an Azerite piece, the 7th Legionnaire’s Leather Mantle, which may be why it is a lower ilvl. Azerite pieces tend to be sit in the same category as higher ilvl normal items. Not sure on the Shield, but being an off hand it might have different rules. Overall though, I’m afraid that isn’t something that Support can really provide any insight into.

If you believe you’ve encountered a bug, please submit a report in the Bug Report forum so our QA team can take a look.

If you want more information on how these systems work though, I’d recommend contacting @WarcraftDevs. There is no guarantee that they’ll provide an answer, especially over the holidays, but they tend to try to answwer questions that may be causing a bit of confusion there.

I’d check the ilvl of each toon. I know that with each character that I have the cache promised ilvl is different based on the ilvl of that character. I was asking about the specific toon I received this particular piece on. However, I ran the same daily on another toon and the cache was stated as ilvl 355 (because that toon’s ilvl is lower)… so, it’s possible your one toon has a lower ilvl (or did… given how easy it is to get gear these days, you may have increased the ilvl significantly within the past day or so).

well i am a little annoyed that it isnt what was shown(it shouldnt matter the type no matter what if it says a 370 cache it should at least be 370) and as for ilvl they are both above the 355 threshold Pando at 357, leila at 359 so that shouldnt matter either. Even if it did it has been my experience that they keep the lower ilvl toons emmissary caches at 355 if they dont meet the threshold. But like i said its done … I was just wondering why the difference… i’m just a filthy casual anyways lol

No such thing. Your $15 a month spends the same as mine, or the same as any popular content creator on YouTube. Just felt I needed to say that.
