It’s better to be based by accepting cringe than to be cringe trying to be based - Sen’jin
We still had stuff like Tirion constantly going on about love, hope, and friendship all the way back in WotLK.
WoW has always had corny dialogue. Sometimes it’s an edgelord Demon Hunter and sometimes it’s a sunshine and rainbows Paladin.
Remember rainbows are an imps greatest enemy
You do have a point. I specifically hated DF cause of the writing. It felt like we watching a Disney movie then. The writing seems to be keeping with that same tone. And yes, WoW has had a corny edge to it, but this is two whole expansions so far of all characters being that way, not some random sidequest like in previous zones.
Where’s my Herald of the Rainbow hero talents, blizzard?
Its not the line, its how its said.
Tyrion (voice actor)…could make talking about refrigerators sound cool as hell lol.
Now when you mixe cheesy lines and less impactful voice actors…well you get these kinds of threads.
Kind of like real life. One of JFK’s most famed speeches…he speak with such confidence, such power…most who know what he said just ignore the fact he called himself a jelly donut.
The Dude didn’t speak German, but the A for effort given lol. And it sounded cool.
it’s definitely the line, bro’s voice acting is on point the line’s just so dumb
say what you will about how older wow was cringe. at least it felt like the people voicing those lines had some interest in the thing behind it. Older wow felt like a play where everyone kinda sucked but loved the thing.
New wow at least since df has felt like a bunch of people just taking a paycheck.
I’ll take cringe voice acting with love over robotic paycheck chasing any day.
It’s like the origins as well. Just look through the quotes and the amount of corny references since WC3:
Omg I didn’t even realize Tichondrius was speaking the LOTR dark speech
This current DF style of writing etc is just hard to go through, watch, experience.
And whoever thought ‘‘I AM MY SCARS’’ was cringe or whatever… shame on you
It was the rule of cool 100x but felt right.
This stuff is just trashy writing. Like the ones who wrote the tyrande malfurion lines in Legion got a raise or something lol
You’re going to get gaslit to high heavens my man. Only way to tell Blizzard is to vote with your wallet. People are going to pretend that somehow this cornball fest is somehow compelling compared to Arthas, The Scourge, and metal hardcore epicness you’d actually be willing to show your friends. These the same type of people who would be like, “DF end cutscene was so beautiful! WoW has ALWAYS been this way!” With their slow dialogue about love, holding hands, and bringing about the Age of Strawberries.
Remember, Shadowlands was a disaster. DF was Blizzard’s shortest expansion ever. They are desperate with TWW bringing Chris back on board and announcing this Worldsoul Saga and “GeT BaCk In ThE FigHT!” what fight? More like get back into our armchair therapy sessions we’ve been spewing for years. DF was a failure in player acquisition (T&E’s own words) and TWW will be just the same. When you have peak games on the market that actually treat its audience with a grain of intelligence and maturity, people would rather go play those than stick around for this. Walk away, it’s the only way to make any sort of difference.
Once their “The Therapy Within!” fails miserably and the vast majority of people dipping their toes back in dip back out after less than 2 months, they’ll find another reason to cut this garbage short and speedrun to Midnight. I’d be surprised if TWW lasts even 3 raid tiers lmfao, there is nothing compelling here to keep newbies long term. They’re gonna head straight back to actual metal and cool stuff like Helldivers 2, Black Myth, Baldur’s Gate 3, and actual mature games. Just like with DF, only dungeon and raid junkies will stick around for this while pressing skip on every piece of narrative they can because it’s just that terrible.
only that will never work because everyone comes in for raid/m+ season no matter how bad the rest of the game is.
vicious circle… data will seemingly show that people are enjoying themselves and paying so nothing will change.
kinda stuck with this old cow. why risk starting something bigger/better when this one still gives steady milk no matter what. a bit sad really.
I think its even weirder that they announced 3 expansions at once and frankly all we’ve heard of them seems like what we’d get in a single expansion back in the day. The nerubians alone are barely a large threat, just like how the primalists were just the twilights hammer but less cool. Next expansion all we have to look forward to is going back to the sunwell to elf things in elf lands with elf themes.
At this point it just feels like a bunch of interns are reading cliffnotes of what people liked about wow and throwing those ideas at the wall with absolutely 0 comprehension for how they’d work in an actual narrative setting.
They don’t want anyone to notice
The writing isn’t great that’s for sure. Is it Dawntrail levels of Wuk Lamat bad? Naw. Is it worth fanbodytype2’ing over? Naw.
I agree somewhat, but actually believe Blizzard are in panic mode. Reason being is DF was WoW’s shortest expansion, followed only by WoD (and we know why that was cut short dramatically). People like to pretend DF was this major success, but it actually wasn’t. As you mentioned, it kept the hardcore players around who only do dungeons and raids, but it didn’t bolster their revenue by bringing old blood and new blood back in and keeping them there. They actually speedran to TWW, and are trying desperately to build hype with “WORLDSOUL SAGA” and Chris being back on board.
They’re throwing all their eggs in this basket, hoping it’ll bring in new players, and old players who return will actually stick around. However, I think they flopped horribly. There is NOTHING compelling about The Therapy Within! There is no way in heck they’ll be able to justify multiple raid tiers for this expansion, and that subscription revenue will dip fast. I fully expect them to speedrun to Midnight, and there is already a sense of rushing because these campaigns are the shortest we’ve ever seen in an expansion I believe. Oddly short, idk, it’ll definitely be interesting to see how many people actually pre-order Midnight once they’ve gotten a taste of “THE WORLDSOUL SAGA!”. Imo, they killed all the Worldsoul Saga hype with this dud of a starter.
You’re supposed to start off with a BANG at the beginning of the saga to get people invested. Dalaran was trash, barely 5 minutes. Most people already forgot about it. Talking about your feelings isn’t the route to go.
Mind you, i’m not saiyan that old wows writing was great or anything but, the main complaint most people had was that we didn’t get enough on the stories! Which i think while still disappointing is far better than no one giving enough of a crap about a story to even want to follow up on.
That’s another sign of the desperation. It’s almost akin to the early cancellation of WoD and the sudden “LEGION” announcement back at Gamescon instead of Blizzcon. DF was cancelled early (shortest expansion ever) and they contacted Chris to breathe life back into this franchise and announced first time ever a SAGA with 3 expansions. They are definitely hoping TWW rejuvenates the playerbase and retains them long term, so they’re willing to stick it out this whole saga.
But where’s the hype? TWW is a snoozefest of earthen crying about their feelings, bugs who’ve been evil and we’ve been killing since WOTLK with no depth or nuance about them, and a bunch of humans who worship the light (OH GOD, THAT’S DIFFERENT!) all centered around therapy sessions about love, friendship, and The Age of Strawberries. There’s no way this expansion “hype” lasts a whole year, just no way. There’s no meat at all in this storyline, and delves are freaking trash. Island Expedition 2.0 more like it. They are now gonna try to speedrun to Midnight, less than 6 months in imo.
He came in when TWW was already several months in development.
He does have a knack for selling things but yeah the hype is non existent this time around.
Yup I hear you.
Not perfect, not great, but just felt right and WoW-like.
Now it just feels like a lot of that was stripped away.
Improvements in TWW, maybe a bit, can’t lie but it does feel as you said that it feels slimmed down also compared to past campaigns even.
I was interested in TWW because Xal’atath was supposed to be this hot, corrupting guile villain. I decided to view an early access stream to make sure everything looked good. Then I watched her body Khadgar 1v1, with the excuse being she has the danuser stone that they invented out of thin air a couple months ago. So basically another arbitrarily overpowered villain that is going to stand around taunting us. Also there’s no option to side with the villain, when half the players want to, when the villain wants you to, in an expansion called “The War Within”. Lost what hype I had and decided against buying.
I am however excited for the next BG3 update, which is going to give Minthara a bit more content.
