So I have all my characters except for one on WRA, the other one I made on Moon Guard for shiggles to see how active they are since it seems like WRA is dead during almost all hours of the day. I noticed that I can hop on at anytime on Moon Guard and there be SO many different types of RP going on. Walk up, events, shows on the side of the road. It’s packed. But whenever I hop on WRA, Stormwind seems like a ghost town. I check the entire city and I find maybe 2-3 people in an inn somewhere. Is there any reason for this heavy decline in people around that I don’t know of?
It’s hard to account for anecdotal experience. My anecdotal experience, for example, is that Stormwind is pretty active in the evenings.
I’m looking around Stormwind right now and there are a few people RPing in various spots, but not many. That’s probably because it’s currently about 10:30am on a Monday. Remember that WrA is a Pacific Time server, and that matters to its activity levels, even though not every player on WrA is in the Pacific timezone.
Multiple edits because I can’t seem to handle coherent sentences at 10:30 am on a Monday.
WRA Alliance has a small city vibe compared to it than Moon Guard, which is a Metropolis.
There’s been people trying to shove the whole “Moon Guard is for Alliance, Wyrmrest is for Horde” ideal for a few years now, and it has caused some imbalance, but there’s also plenty of people who can’t handle the huge crowds of Moon Guard.
The imbalance is like 1/.5 though - which is actually insanely healthy considering the state of the entire game is leaning towards Horde right now. We’re one of the only servers left with both a Horde and Alliance population, let alone RP.
I just saw you standing outside one of the taverns in Stormwind like 2 minutes ago running by on my mage. It is 10 in the morning on a Monday and Love is in the Air just started. There’s a few people in Lion’s Rest and a few in Cathedral square right now, but there’s usually not large swatches of people until prime time hours.
I meant at all times. Not just now. It’s something I’ve ran into for weeks now almost every day. It seems like Moon Guard at it’s most dead has a little more pop than WRA at it’s peak. Just crazy to me because I’m used to there being people everywhere.
Hello welcome to chili’s
I rarely notice it being entirely dead unless it’s the wee hours of the morning or the middle of the day on a weekday. But, I also used to play on actual dead RP servers. We’re talking 2-3 RP guilds, no walk-up RP at all, and both capitals pretty much empty at all times level of dead outside some poor non-RP guys just AFK standing around waiting for queues.
One thing to keep in mind is that RP works like a ripple;
If you start something, people will come. I can’t count the amount of times me and just one other person starts RPing in the Lamb with nobody else around, and then within the hour there’s a group outside and then a couple more people inside too.
People see activity and they stick around. If they don’t, they might go do dungeons or battlegrounds or something.
Moonguard’s population is 4:1 Alliance to Horde. So, it’s going to look like that.
Comparing MG to WRA is a little unfair. Also I find that activity increases in the evenings and on weekends. Almost as if people work during the day.
Nah. I get that. I work during the day too. (Work from home ftw) I’m talking about during the evenings when it’s supposed to be “peak”.
If you get that, then…
what are we discussing?
That overall it seems to be far more dead. Read my first post??
It’s pretty much just as Shirt said it.
RP on WrA is functionally a ripple. Someone needs to initiate an RP to ensure everyone isn’t just standing still since initiating is often times the most difficult part of the program. The only other issue is that a lot of WrA’s RP is guild based. Some large guilds aren’t just going to lounge in the city, at all hours of the day.
On top of this, like a ripple, the depth of the pool helps. WrA’s community for Alliance is, at the end of the day, smaller than the Horde community. I’ve personally never had issue finding RP in either faction on the majority of my characters.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s always remarked that you don’t see open world RP, but when guilds go out in the world outside cities to RP, they go out in force. The issue, however, is it’s a big game world and many of them do this because it keeps their RPs less cluttered and relatively free of outside chatter.
Last part, I’d be lying if Horde did not have more options for it’s RP scene by virtue of larger population. You just run into the same issues; most RP guilds have RP away from the capital as to keep their RPs less cluttered, even when it’s casual socializing for their peeps.
I disagree with the assessment that it’s anywhere close to dead. Maybe it’s anemic compared to Moonguard, but Moonguard always felt overstuffed to me.
What kind of roleplay do you usually go for, Torilas? Like, what’s your strategy in hunting for RP? What themes are you after?
Might be worthwhile to join that LFRP community that Gwyneth started a while back. I don’t have a link but I’m sure someone does.
Your mileage may vary, but keep a positive outlook and a sharp eye. I’m sure something will pop up eventually!
WrA is a high-pop server with its population spread in almost-even ratios across two factions and three cities.
MG is a high-pop server with about 75% of its population on one faction in one city.
If you define “alive” as “like MG Stormwind,” then yes – WrA is going to look dead all the time. That’s not because people aren’t RPing on WrA though.
Honestly? Literally any themes. I have multiple alts for different types of characters. When I hunt for RP I go to quite literally everywhere in Stormwind since that’s the main RP hub. I check inside all enterable buildings. All the outside areas and even by the docks. I check Goldshire to see if there is an event there. Westbrook Garrison as well.
People are playing the video game, if you check Stormwind at certain times then it’s really poppin, other times, it’s not. That’s just how stuff works.
Yeah, it’s less people than we had in WoD or Legion doing open world RP, but that’s because WoD left people with so little to do, all they could do was RP.
Though frankly, I’m sure it’ll get back to that level of constant activity someday.
Hell, come hunt me down and I’ll help you network into whatever you’re looking for. I made a bunch of connections early, and I think I could help you find more RP outside of Stormwind. RP seeking doesn’t have to be confined to the major city.
It’s seems like it’s less than BFA as well which seems…strange.
Eh, I’d say it’s getting better than BFA, I’ve been seeing new (and old) faces coming to WRA-A as of late.
