WPvP needs a new "bad guy" mode

Given that the faction war is over, cross-faction grouping is a thing, and the prevalence of free-for-all pvp quests, I think we need a new Censer of Agony/Sliver of N’Zoth type toy.

Instead of just limiting it to just one zone though, have it work everywhere (except sanctuaries perhaps…), so it can be an evergreen thing. That the previous versions only worked in certain zones was awkward because the zone limits made it easy to forget it existed, while simultaneously making the zones it did work in a mess.

Were it to work in more places, it would spread out the chaos a bit, and allow groups of villains/outlaws/whatever to form more organically.

Plus, a third virtual faction could help take the edge off of lopsided shards. Like, if there’s 3 Alliance in a zone for every Horde (basically every Tuesday…), some of us could go hostile to turn it into a 3-way fight.

To make it more interesting, maybe swap our skins to the villain version of each race where applicable? For instance, maybe Draenei could swap to the red Man’ari eredar skin while active, Moose Tauren could turn into Feltotem, or Gnomes become Leper Gnomes. This would give us a chance to play sub-races which would likely never become playable.

As for the races with no obvious “evil twin,” could just change the mouseover tag to a different group? EG, humans might show as Defias, or undead might be tagged as Scourge.

Might not make sense lore-wise for, say, Fel Orcs to be running around Dragon Isles. But neither does Night Elves fighting Worgen over ducks.

A criminal/outlaw system! I’ve suggested this since Battle for Azeroth when they implemented Sliver of N’Zoth.

This system would allow you to break your faction allegiance to become a criminal or an outlaw, allowing you to kill all players outside of your guild/party in War Mode. While you are a criminal/outlaw, faction cities will treat you as hostile. You’re only able to enter neutral cities such as Dalaran, Valdrakken, Oribos, Booty Bay, Gadgetzan, etc.

If you’re a bounty, instead of showing Horde/Alliance bounty mark, it’d be replaced with a small skull :skull_and_crossbones: instead.

They could even make a mini island hub that is a sanctuary for outlaws/criminals, complete with an auction house, black market auction house, inn, and a smaller portal network. (for areas that require porting to that normally are tied to factions, including neutral portal to Oribos, Mechagon, Kul’Tiras, Zandalar, etc.)

To clear your criminal/outlaw status, the player would need to pay a large sum of Honor. You’re only able to clear the status once a week, too.

This system would only function in War Mode, but if you’re a outlaw/criminal, you can’t opt out of War Mode since you’ve effectively decided to go at war with everyone. Queueing for a battleground or dungeon would still queue you as your normal faction, as this system wouldn’t effect you in instances.

An outlaw hub would be awesome. 'Tis a shame they didn’t do it during BfA, as that would have been the perfect time to join a pirate crew.

If it’s not hard locked to a single expansion though, they could still do a pirate island for a hub. Could have access via ship from Booty Bay, and once there have an NPC to talk to get to other continents like the campaign boats in BfA. Maybe portals to off-world locations? Or have some funny flavor text asking how the heck we’re sailing to Draenor or whatever.

Speaking of Draenor, maybe the inn could have villains of the not-quite-world-ending variety who rotate weekly for quests. If they’re not too worried about breaking the lore, could even have ostensibly dead NPCs show up; perhaps they could have jokes about needing our help because they have rez sickness, or how they’re happy to be out of the Shadowlands.

Imagine Hogger showing up with quests wearing Kyrian wing cloak.

World PvP can currently be broken down to the following.

-Get on GF and find a group to camp WM objectives.
-Roll Feral or Rogue and kill snipe before you get nuked by GF party camping WM objectives.
-Roll Guardian Druid and kill entire GF party camping the objective w/ your 4 buttons.

I think it would be cool if they did AI NPCs 2.0 for WM to basically keep the group campers busy, even some AI NPC boss spawns designed for PvP that could wipe a group of players rather than just be a punching bag.

Keep AI out of PvP, thanks.

I have just figured out that there is a simple and very effective way to deal with groups camping WM objectives: just let them zerg one another and leech kills by repeatedly landing on them then taking off to AoE them with the dragonrider’s initiative talent.

I just farmed my sparks of life by doing that, while annoying the idiot zerg groups at the same time due to the AoE CCs caused by my landings. They were too busy to deal with me.

It’s probably effective for world pvp quests too.

I play Rogue…None of that is necessary. I can tag the objectives and re-stealth and I can tag kills on all sides of any fight and vanish…

That said I don’t think Rogue is for everyone so other solutions might be needed. If you don’t like AI that’s fine but I hate to break it to you…it’s coming regardless.

Yeah it’s a pretty easy way to get Sparks of Life. I got lazy one week and had done this at Rhuzast. Pretty good way to get Bloody Tokens on an alt too

Really? According to who?
I mean if people want to fight AIs there’s already this whole thing called PvE. PvP needs to remain its own thing, otherwise what’s the point?

The current group-to-win strategy is largely a side effect having free for all WQs. The move towards FFA WQs, in turn, was likely intended to mitigate faction balance issues. Both at the regional level, and per shard. Imagine showing up at a pvp wq at 1am late in a patch, only to find it’s just you and 2 other horde there. If it wasn’t FFA, you couldn’t really do the quest.

Yea, they could (and usually do) add NPCs that count, but it kinda takes the fun out of it when there’s no players to fight.

With some sort of outlaw/villain pseudo-faction, they could bring back some standard faction based designs, and it would still be playable despite any imbalance. Even if it’s late night and just two Horde are there, one of them could use the new Censer/Sliver thing.

I Love this.

I think its inevitable especially for games that are struggling with long queue times for various modes of PvP. I don’t think anyone really needs to say it, It’s the obvious solution to many problems. I’m not for or against it but to see how AI is being implemented all over the world I don’t see it as a stretch that it will start filling holes in games soon as well.

It’s actually pretty likely that you have had an interaction on the internet recently with an AI possibly even on these forums…

This could easily be solved if they just gave us cross faction random battlegrounds. They allow us to queue together in rated, I don’t see why we can’t for random BGs. It would cut queue times by ALOT.

The only way AI fits into PvP is if it’s in the form of a tutorial for new players getting into PvP.

Have you ever played through Exiles Reach starting zone? It’s a perfect tutorial that teaches players how to play the game, it teaches them the basics. I’d be fine with a queueable practice BG for newer players that pit them against AI similar to the ones in Comp Stomp. The practice BG would teach you to be careful about interrupts and how to fake cast, how to CC, who and what to interrupt, focus healers, etc.

This would be an acceptable form of AI that would be extremely beneficial to PvP, but only in the scenario of teaching new players. Other than that, it does NOT belong in real PvP.

I totally agree. That said we will have to see how this is handled when WOW eventually does begin to dwindle into low population territory. Not making predictions, could be another decade for all I know.
