WoW's bleeding because they can't keep new players and casual players

You’re asking the wrong question.

The better question is: How do we get our Game Director to focus at least half of his attention on improving content outside of high end raiding, mythic+ and whatever systems he cooked up

We did have that, in Halfhill. Kinda. A mini version of it. I thought it was fun, but you know, the raiders whined that it was “stupid”.

Then they tried to epic supersize it into garrisons and it just turned out terrible because they bit off more than they can chew (which is the theme for the entire expansion of WoD).

To be fair, FFXIV’s fishing system isn’t that much better. But that’s just my opinion.

Look up a game called My Time At Portia. I rather like its fishing system. It’s simple but yet engaging.

They are terrible at scaling and balance. This much has been shown in the normal versions of these dungeons. They would have to, by hand, re-do the dungeons every expansion because they never bothered to actually make a GOOD scaling engine that works.

FFXIV, however, was designed around this at the very core, from the get-go and that’s why they have that over there. It worked then, it works now. You just move the slider a little one way or the other and it will always feel nice and balanced.

The sad part is that all game industry is like that…

Just look EA that is the extreme of what you sad…

They can do a good quality game and make lot of money with it but as you sad, the suits and ties just dont give a sh**

Actually…

After some of the failures 2-3 years ago, EA has been … better at this. I still don’t trust them further than I can see them, and I won’t preorder anything of theirs, but they have actually been trying to ingratiate themselves with the players.

We went from loot boxes and bad monetization to re-joining Steam and offering games without loot boxes, and an actual Remaster of one of the most beloved franchises ever, that was mysteriously devoid of monetization.

I still don’t wholly trust them, but so far… they’ve been doing way better than they were.

But then it took the likes of Battlefront 2 and several lawsuits to dope slap them upside the head to wake them up.

FFXIV 1.0’s fishing was far more involved. lol They really simplified it for the 2.0 release. Maybe for the better tbh. >.< I remember it being a bit much. If not fishing, then a crafting overhaul at least.

I was disappointed to arrive in Shadowlands and find out archaeology had been discontinued. It’s like they give us nothing. I’ve spent entire nights doing nothing in FFXIV but playing stupid mahjong even though I’m terrible at it. Put Hearthstone in WoW and I’d probably start playing it.

Personally I think they’ve just lost touched with the player base, after like 3-4 expansions of them not listening to alpha/beta testers feedback and continuing to put in convoluted non-sense… Not to mention, everytime I come back some of my toy macros are changed (why??) its just little anti-fun things that some random dev decides to do because he has nothing better to do… I think what’s lost in translation is the various personality types that play, for me? I just like building characters… having 4-5 pvp alts that can conquest gear without having to slog through - literally every aspect of the game.

That and the squish definitely neutered some of alt - leveling fun, ahh how I miss hitting 58 on a plate wearer so I could farm the hellfire dungeons, getting those 2-3 items that have 2 gem slots and twinking them out to max strength with enchants. That, and so what if I wanna use an outdated enchant in current content? The way the devs make the game, they might as well make all previous expansion content not-available after the new one comes out. It’s a joke to even waste time going back getting all the old profession stuff now (if not for mog and for the few exceptions like jeeves), but seriously just about any profession stuff after WoD is a waste of time to get… How I lament the days of the drums of forgotten kings. Just my 2 cents.

I mean even EA knows no one is stupid enough to pay microtransactions for a 8 year old game franchise. This isn’t something morally good they did.

Eeeeh.

We already have Hearthstone in the Blizz Launcher, we don’t need it in-game, lol.

As for the fishing, I don’t really like how hard XIV’s fishing is RNG’d, especially if you’re trying to get a particular fish, or even HQ fish, it’s slow and tedious. The ability that lets you catch HQ fish with any frequency dumps most of your GP meter and you need lots of cordials to restore it, and I just never liked the system in general.

I’d rather it be more skill-based than RNG-based, but that’s just me. It’s not bad per se, I just don’t think it’s particularly awesome or anything.

Well, I’m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt here, and I’ll wait and see what they do with their next few games. Again, I don’t trust them, and I’m not letting them off the hook, but they did show at least some effort in trying to do the right thing.

Rejoining Steam was a huge plus too.

Fair enough. I think I just like the feeling of being in the game, you know? I like seeing my character sitting at the mahjong table in XIV. I would love to see my night elf squaring off at an inn table in Stormwind or Darnassus (RIP) against someone in Hearthstone. Little things like that just go a long way with me. I’m simple I guess.

You should never give EA the benefit of the doubt when they keep peddling microtransactions in their popular games like FIFA.

Everyone has theorized that they rejoined steam because no one gave a damn about them on Origin. It’s more about them trying to win people back because steam has way more people compared to Origin.

That is what I am doing right now  I’m waiting for it to rain so I can catch a certain kind of fish.

Y’all keep using this argument as if to justify your contempt for a different game.

Like for real, FFXIV is now currently in-between the final expansion patch and the start of the next expansion. This is a normal time for subscriptions to go down–but because WoW has dropped the ball so hard, people are instead playing FFXIV in droves.

Even FFXIV’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, encourages people to take a break every now and then until new content comes out.

You would look like a chump trying to prove that in huge numbers like WOW when every one and their dog is praising FF 14.

Because it has not bit them in their behind…
But I believe it’s finally coming to a head and wow can’t rest on their laurels…

Because one is in serious denial if you don’t think the hype is strongly in favor of Final Fantasy XIV right now…

And hopefully this might be able to kick-start wow into thinking outside the box and not be trapped in the prison that is raid Mythic Plus andPvP

FIFA is a sports title.

Sports titles are (IMO) boring as balls, lol. I mean, the types of gamers those games are aimed at are… eh. I probably should just stop there.

Either way, I don’t pay attention to, and don’t care what they do in sports games. I care more about franchises like Mass Effect and other similar games.

We’ll see what they do with #5 here, that I’ve heard was being started on.

That’s certainly a possibility, but I do remember when they pulled their games from Steam, they said something about how they didn’t like how Steam operates and that’s why they made Origin in the first place.

I think what they’re trying to do now, is copy the game pass stuff that Xbox does with a similar thing over on Steam, and well… plenty of gamers do that sort of thing, and if that’s what they wanna do… shrug they can go ahead and do that.

Oh, girl, I’m patching! I’m about to get my mahjong on! I’m also pretty sure the neighbors just saw me run and slide across the floor of my kitchen in my socks

They would abandon Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Star Wars and have no problem the next day. They make a LOT of money from FIFA.

Yep it just sounds like sour grapes

Agreed. This World of Spreadsheets is, meh, ok, but I miss WoW.

Two words for you ‘Rock Collecting’

Come on Blizz just add it dudes, it’s rock collecting, don’t need to do any balancing like pet battles, don’t need CDs like toys, I would no :poop: look forward to the rock collecting patch and it’d probably be the first thing I did when I logged in

Thing is, I am actually enjoying Korthia right now. I’m able to usually upgrade my gear once a day. I enjoy getting in on the rare elite fights. I enjoy the Maw more now. I avoided that place like the plague in 9.0.

But I can’t see it keeping me around two months from now.

I’m going to do Torghast enough to get my legendary upgraded, then drop it like it’s hot.
