If this calculator is accurate for the current state of talent trees in dragonflight I’m out.
You’re buying back all of the baseline abilities and bonuses you currently have baseline in shadowlands. There’s no creativity to the system, and if people thought the prune was bad wait until the prune 2.0, making your prune yourself.
Why oh why does the creative team think it’s a good idea to take away skills again and again and make you buy them back again?
Just tried speccing into all of the baseline I have on my current DK and you can’t close to everything you currently have(which isn’t a lot even now) on this talent build for dragonflight.
If this + dragon riding is your new “content” this is a hard pass on the coming expansion. You’re going to have nothing.
Never too early to give feedback though. I definitely don’t like the idea of a class tree. Spec trees are fine. But not having a full base kit is just silly. The druid one is full of nonsensicals. Like baseline cat form and ferocious bite, but no baseline combo builders. Baseline bear form, but no baseline offensive abilities. Or moonkin form being a part of the class tree, and not a baseline ability for balance!
The prune that people asked for due to ability bloat? The prune they somewhat undid because people regretted it and started getting bloat again while also realizing how many of the abilities they thought they wanted were kind of pointless? The prune that people have even started asking for again in SL?
That’s why they do this, and have done it for several expacs. Some of your Legion abilities returned as talents or baseline. They’ve been doing it for a few expacs now.
Because the talents as they’re going to be aren’t exactly talents as they were, but the leveling process and talents mostly as we know them, slightly expanded, into one system with two trees.
You begin play with some baseline abilities, and then you start earning talent points for your class tree and specialization tree as you level, gradually gaining your toolkit as you would have automatically in its prior iteration. That isn’t to say there aren’t things which need fixing - technically removing interrupts from baseline is one, I think - but they’re not actually taking anything away that you would have now, only having you invest points that you, being 60, will already have into the new system to get the build you prefer.
To put it unga-bunga-ly; you have all thing had before, only need spend points get back, points at you level you already get.
It is cool. I fiddled with it for about five minutes yesterday.
You have to make some tough choices and the new stuff with points etc. - you don’t know how powerful or weak that choice might be.
Picking the known, standard spells is easy – stacking to the left or right is not easy.
Why does blizz devs have to be cheap and lazy and only provide baseline and ranked filler talents into 80% of the tree? Bc thats how classic is and blizz thinks everyone wants that because .01% of streamers/ mythic raiders /pvpers say they do?
Honestly, its stupid. If the talent is a passive dmg bonus/stat bonus/dur inc/cd dec/ then it needs to be baked in. If it was already in the baseline spec in SL, it needs to be baked in.
For talents, the same thing. Like ferocious roar for ferals. Combo point spender, have to keep track of the buff, and whats the buff? 10% flat dmg increase. Just bake it in already. Theres ZERO reasons to bloat the trees with that garbo.
Im not saying there cant be passive traits in the trees, but make them worth while. Boring passive traits should have been gone years ago.
Y’know, you make a good point. Sifting through all the accusations like stupid and lazy and some suggestion at motives is some heavy lifting; you can do better.
You lack the foresight to see why the new talent tree is a good thing, or the creativity to come up with funny builds.
It isn’t supposed to be a flashy new thing, it’s supposed to be a solid foundation. And that’s exactly what it is.
“I can’t take everything” – You’re not supposed to, that’s the point.
“I lose stuff” – This is different from every other expansion… how…?
“No creativity to the system” – I have to disagree. I think the idea of an UH DK being able to spec into a no perma-ghoul build is pretty funny. And it lets me do stuff like take Unholy Assault and Summon Gargoyle at the same time.
Or I can be an UH DK that for PVP purposes decides to spec all the way down the Blood portion of the DK half.
Or how about this, a UH DK that specs into Unholy Assault, Summon Gargoyle, Empower Rune Weapon + Runic Corruption, and go for a high Haste + High Runic power burst build.
Will that be good? Absolutely no idea. Probably not. But it’s something I can do for fun.
