Gosh you two are so brave
Capitalism, not fascicm. Companies can censor anyone and anything they choose under the U.S. form of capitalism.
But for example when social media companies allow extremists to post inflammatory disinformation to increase traffic and boost profits, they shouldn’t be too surprised of the consequences when the s*** inevitably hits the fan.
Ok, so you have nothing worthwhile to say.
Honestly not sure. I don’t bother looking at most of the settings since I only use the forums when im bored
A lot of the people who shout muh freedom of speech zomg censorship!!! The most on the internet don’t even have a degree from a 2 year college. They simply don’t understand things. They doesn’t make them bad people but there’s a marked difference from a highly educated politician interpreting things and someone who dropped out of high-school that hasn’t even read it and just parrot muh freedom of speech because they see others doing it as well.
Thank you, dear. It hasn’t always been easy especially in a world filled with transphobic bigots. Progress will always be made.
I’ve understood this for a while.
I just find it amusing the hard right is so anti-capitalism.
To be fair going to college doesn’t automatically make one more educated than anyone else. I mean two of the most successful and smartest individuals in the world were college drop outs.
Just do not post there if you do not like their practices.
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
They’re just that: guidelines. They’re vague for a reason and I guess the mods aren’t fair. That happens. My suggestion? Just don’t post there. The only time I comment there is to leave a helpful hint on an item/quest. That’s it.
I’ve only noticed stuff getting deleted when it has nothing to do with the post it is commenting on.
Ranting about things or people on a news post about in-game events or guides isn’t exactly relevant.
Also, like others said, they are a private entity. They can delete and/or censor whatever they want on their platform. Your only recourse is to not post there.
Wow.
What some people fail to understand is, Free of Speech is different than censorship.
But the world has evolved, we dont really have barnyard town halls anymore. Most information is pass out digitally. Social Media.
I feel, and others, that we need to re-look at section 230 and have new rules set. Because as it stands right now, most all social media leans left (and im not saying that to get political, im saying it to because it is true). It is healthy to hear both sides of an argument – not just delete the other’s opinions.
But yes, as it stands right now – private companies can do whatever they want with their platform. But then the problem is, like for example with Parlor, google, apple, amazon, and all of them removed it from their stores – and that is the big 3 tech that is basically control of information flow right now.
Private companies can do whatever they want in regards to speech unless it’s protected (e.g. reporting sexual harrassment).
With that said, private companies who enforce unreasonable censorship show everyone else how they (and some of their people at the very least) feel about free speech.
There’s also a dangerous precedence being set when companies that provide services that are thought of as essential in today’s world (e.g. banking, internet) are purging people for x political reason. Such services are a major component of everyday life.
Imagine going to buy groceries only for your card to be declined, and you find out your bank decided to pull the plug on you because you wore a blue shirt or a red hat. That’s where we’re heading if things keep on their path.
Again, private companies can do what they want, but their decisions have repercussions on people’s lives. Competition that isn’t stifled by mega-corps is needed.
So you were a Debby Downer on WoWHead and wonder why your comments got deleted?
Yes, obviously?
How can one board endure so much truth? And the worst part is, there are people who would legitimately defend these actions, because they are so hateful themselves that any dissenting opinion or action must be crushed. Has anyone here read The Handmaid’s Tale? Think that but with more unironic hipster tattoos.
Sure, but that’s not because they didnt like the speech on Parler.
Its because the people on Parler started an insurrection and riot that got 5 people killed. Like at some point you gotta take the consequences for your actions.
Exactly. Sure private companies can make any arbitrary rule they want but the question is where do we draw the line. The way its going right now all we currently see is one side of a biased situation instead of the full story and the more it goes down that rabbit hole it’ll get to a point where a person can’t even have a single thought without them being arrested or otherwise for a “thought crime”
