Wowhead ads: any suggestions on how to stop these?

agreed just switched to this my self a few weeks ago

I use AdBlock plus and don’t have that issue. I think it depends on what browser you use, some don’t allow that extension anymore. I use Edge and it works great.

i just use the google chrome one. get ads but it’s not that many and usually isn’t an issue. i don’t pay to remove ads either which i think they do offer for like 99cents or something

Paying to remove ads is racketeering as far as I’m concerned. The companies are basically running a protection racket.

Clear your browser cache & see if that helps.

So you’re from Australia

So that google can no longer be the default search engine on FF? You really think they wanna go that route?

Probably not but Google isn’t a good corporation (not that there is such a thing). They will try anything to protect their ad revenue. Even try to coerce a non-profit like Mozilla. Especially if they lose search priority with Apple. That is already going through anti-trust courts.

setup a pihole.

As others have said, uBlock Origin all day every day!

Clearing up your search cache would help with those particular ads. Though perhaps we’re getting a look inside the mind of Kneeshooter?

Aside from that using Ublock would work. If I recall rumors began surfacing for one of the original adblockers that they could be ‘bought’ to allow ads from certain companies through regardlless of settings.

Have NoScript installed and slowly allow one website/domain at a time.

Kinda funny that wowhead is full of invasive n malicious ads yet Blizz still pushes the site.

If you’re seeing malicious ads, report them to WoWhead. The banners are controled by a third party site. They are based off of our internet history/cookies. WoWhead has little control over them. But if they never get reported then no one has any hope of fixing them.

I use Firefox addons: Ghostery Tracker and uBlock Origin
they work well
/bows in respect

Firefox is no better than Chrome after the deal they have with Google. Plus Chrome functionality wise Chrome is the best browser. And I say that as someone who has tried almost every browser and hates Google. :person_gesturing_no:

Get a better ad blocker. I recommend Firefox with the uBlock Origin plug-in; it even works on YouTube ads.

Opera browser will work very well, and even stops all of the YouTube video ad’s to the point YouTube gives a message that Ad blockers are against their Terms of Service.

been browsing those dog treats again eh?

I only use Ublock Origin these days because of Youtube, they’ll detect and shut down videos if you’re using anything else. I noticed that looking at WoWHead, Ublock Origin has the number of blocked elements at 427(!) currently, compared to a whopping ONE on this page here, and the number keeps climbing.

I’m guessing something got borked with the ad feed on their site.

Edit: I glanced over again, it’s now at 579 about two minutes later. Definitely something is broken.
