Not comments but “achievement” points. I have over 24,000 so I’m close.
Yikes, I didn’t realize that. Thanks for the suggestion for Ublock!
Man…I can’t catch a break, lol. I guess it’s time to go back to FF after all these years.
Because I prefer not to support Tencent or the Chinese Govt as best I can.
Google is exploring ways to remove adblock functionality from Chrome entirely, including making extension unable to block ads. They’re using the boilng frog method to do it though, taking things away gradually in the hopes people won’t notice. Soon Firefox will be the only viable browser. Firefox has stated they will NOT go down this path and extension will always be able to block ads.
OperaGX is based on Chrome, however since they have the source code they have removed a lot of tracking stuff and other nasty things Google put in. Not sure about ad blocking with it. I mean with the source code they can theoretically change anything, however if Chrome does away with adblocking, then there may or may not be extension made for Chrome derivatives that can still block ads.
Thank you, honestly.
I find I pay less and less attention to these things most of the time. I just have to DL FF on my home computer. Already replaced Chrome on the work computer and my phone.
Yeah google seems to think that if they have the “most popular” browser, they can leverage that to force everyone to watch ads. It doesn’t work that way. I’ve actually explored setting up a Squid transparent proxy that blocks ads on the network level. No ad blocking browser extensions necessary, no client configuration necessary. Works on all devices connected to the network and blocks ALL ads, even in phone apps.
It’s more work than setting up a browser extension though, which is why I haven’t done it yet.
There’s more than one way to earn an achievement point, but the most basic way is to make one comment, and earn one point. But everyone’s in a big ol’ hurry these days.
I also like Brave browser, I didn’t know it blocked youtube ads though, I’ll have to try that out.
This right here is why I love Firefox…been using it since it first came out in 2004…IE aka edge is total garbage still …
Edge is Chrome now haha. The first version of it was just a renamed IE. I mean, yeah, it’s safe to say that in any class of products, the Microsoft version will be by far the worst (and it is), but it’s mostly just a reskinned Chrome now.
ALL OF THEM!!!
And I would block them.
I started using Firefox in 1999, long before it was even called that. Started when it was still in Beta. I stuck with Netscape 4.7 until Mozilla was viable. Because I would not under any circumstances use IE. I can honestly say that I have never once launched IE on any computer I own.
I use Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin in Firefox and do not see ads there. Both are available for Chrome and its spinoffs at the moment. However, they will probably be impacted by Manifest v3 since Google is an Ad company above everything else.
If it’s not ublock origin you are doing it wrong.
Addblock+ sold out.
Yeah, google is trying to lock down the browser standard so that you can no longer block adds.
lol wow it is just spamming the same add over and over good grief!
The smaller you make the window, the less adds appear.
Mine suggests cat / dog stuff. :o
But only THEIR browser standard. Firefox has stated they will not abide by this and you will always be able to block ads.
At least until Google tells them they are going to withhold the multi-billion dollar payments they make to Mozilla every year.
Then someone will fork it and the original project will die. Ads WILL be blocked by anyone who wants to. It’s impossible to stop with open source projects.
