WoW, Why not console?

Spyro Enter the Dragonfly…

I mean i get the point what you’re making here, and why Consoles need that since games like that can’t keep on going on…

/looks at Fallout 76 and Sea of Thieves

Well… with uhh…

/looks at Anthem and No Man sky

…Well uhh…

/looks at Fifa, Unisoft games, Cyberpunk and so on as he continues to stammer…

/Then looks at WoW in silence.

Point being is, if you’re going to trade convenience for something that is on PC, at least do it as good the PC does, ya know?

Sure, but PC is not too difficult to setup either. And that’s coming from somebody who built theirs by following what ole Linus tech tips was doing.

Steam alone has big picture mode and many of the games these days have controller support, if not from the devs, but from fans of the game as well. The beauty of PC that it allows you so many options that it can be as easy you want or hard as you want.

Oh trust me, the frame dip is noticeable.

Kind of why we went from RTX 20 to RTX 30, and soon RTX 40. Soon have both the perfromence and graphical fidelity it has to offer.

Now all we need is the games to go along with it, because so few games take advantage of Ray tracing.

Thank god for Renderhook for GTA 3 and GTA VC, they will look dope as hell when i finally get the RTX card. Oh and Spyro too. Now i wonder, are their RT mods for Cities Skyline and The Sims 3? Oh and Maneater!!! Oml and Thief 2?! … Far Cry 5? Cabela’s big game hunter pro hunts? My PS2 Emulator for all the PS2 games i have?! :open_mouth:

I get it, computers are not overly complicated for some. Certainly not myself who has built them by hand for nearly 30 years but even someone like myself enjoys his PS5 for what it is.

I cannot say much for PC ray tracing. My gaming laptop uses a GTX 1080 but I can speak from a PS5 standpoint. Another “different strokes” thing. Some people will always pick the RT option as they want the most pristine picture quality they can get. I used to be that guy. I’ve changed in the past year.

I do hope that the PS6 is configured to allow RT with high frame rates and not try pushing 8K instead. It’s all the uneducated people out there that see “4K” or “8K” and do not fully understand what’s really eye-catching. That’s why the first black friday 4K TVs were such a joke. They didn’t even have HDR which is more catching to the eye.

While 4K is nice, i rather the consoles prioritize on framerate instead.

The console allows for 1080p at high framerate, but its up to the games to support it.

A lot of game companies seem to value making the game look as pretty as possible at expense to 120 fps or even 60 fps in a lot of cases, and people say 30 is fine because that’s all they’ve ever had.

30 hurts my eyes.

I agree, which is why I picked the 1440p option.

Doom Eternal, 3 options:

Locked 4K @ 60 FPS
1800p with RT @ 60 FPS
1584p @ 120 FPS

Take a guess which I use. Hint, your 2nd guess is wrong.

Provided if they can support the outdated hardware.

While 30 isn’t a deal breaker, it’s pretty darn low and makes gameplay feel kind of sluggish, and combined with the motion blur and all the other stuff, it does tend to get me sick sometimes.

1584p @ 120 FPS.

I told you your 2nd guess would be wrong.

You are today’s winner. Your prize? A copy of Adam Lambert’s first album “For Your Entertainment”

… in vinyl.

Well for a game like Doom Eternal, it priorizes gameplay but fair enough.

Actually, that’s not too bad since i like some of his songs, including that one.

Fair enough.

Makes ripping music from it to a computer so i can listen though my headphones hard, but fair enough.

-_-

That depletes the fun of vinyl. I’m taking the record back.

Hey, i like my collectibles to have purpose and not just sit there look pretty. Why you think i’m a gamer?

I’m all for WoW on console

  • You can play WoW currently on PC with a controller perfectly fine (once you get used to it)

  • You can connect a keyboard and mouse to a Console.

That really depends on how late into the generation a game comes out.

Right now ps5/series x hardware is a lot better than most peoples pcs, 7 years from now when we’re at end of gen? different story.

as someone who dj’ed breaks in the late 90’s and early 2000, we still used vinyl. i have an extra technics 1210 wired to my other pc to rip and give copies to friends.

You can play it using a gamepad.

Based on what statistic if you don’t mind me asking?.. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I mean Ps5/Series X is working with 2019 tech essentially, even their Rray tracing is pretty RTX 2070ish. I would imagine their better then some med end PCs of that year. Either way, the hardware stays the same.

Most common CPUs right are 4 core at less than 3ghz, most common GPU is a 1060 6gig.

Hardware surveys.

A 2070 is pretty high end for most people, that’s a $500 card. When I hung around the hardware forums here most people were asking about 1050 ti’s

I understand what you’re both thinking.

You’re saying that the average person’s PC is as good or less than a PS5/Series X. He may have read that as you saying that the new consoles are better than current PCs.

The average person does not run with RTX 3090s, 18-core XE CPUs. In fact, I’m sure it’s safe to say most people run with el cheap-o computers due to budget constraints. They “work” but are not anything to brag about.

Which Hardware survey? Steam? I mean steam isn’t the only place to get Hardware survey.

Either way, this discounts all the other high end PC gaming, especially for those who budget on a High end rig, since budget high end rigs exist.

Well not in just performance, but pretty much everything else, like mod support, unlimited backwards compatibility, no online fees to access the internet you’re already paying for, tons of options to tailor to your own experiences, more then one marketplace…

Mine isn’t really anything to brag about either, but it’s definitionally a massive upgrade from what the PS5 and Xbox 4 is having.

AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT 8-Core Processor, OC’ed to 4.1GHZ,
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (still waiting on the RTX 3070 or 3080, this computer is primed for that card)
64GB DDR4 3200mhz Ram,
2 TB storage SSD and 8 TB HDD,
A b550 pro 4 motherboard.
And i got both an Xbox 360 and Dualshock 4 controllers, plus a TV hooked up as my second monitor.

I do get what you’re both saying.

PC does and always will have more things it’s capable of doing than a console. I don’t think anyone is or will argue that. I believe the focus is on performance.

EDIT: Though WoW’s performance is wonky. It was originally coded to take advantage of 1 CPU core. In Legion, they improved this but it’s still not perfect. I remember in Zandalar (outlier, I know…) I could get 40-300 FPS.
