Look at the design of WHFB elves and orcs. Look at the illustrations Tolkien commissioned for the early editions of his novels. Note that the characteristics are very different.
Bliz’s art lead, Samwise Didier, as it turns out, is an old school weeb. And in the 80s-90s, when western fantasy because as popular as it got in Japan, you got the show that defined anime elven aesthetics, Lodoss Wars. This is also the art wave that gave us people like Amano, Square’s lead cover/character art guy.
And so by cross cultural polination of the genre, the inspired became the inspiration. Elven ears became exagerated to distinguish them from other humanoid creatures from folklore, for example (Tolkien’s elves had sharper ears for sure but they weren’t what WoW and FF’s elves have now).
Wow is as much of a weeb game as FFXIV. Its aesthetics owe a ton to japanese takes on western fantasy.

Warcraft is a direct take from lord of the rings. Hence warcraft is completely unoriginal.
Ffxiv is very Japanese stylised and hence closer to weeb. It’s not by any means full on weeb as some people like to troll it’s players with.
I personally prefer final fantasy, but I’m not a weeb. I just like the graphics, story, and gameplay. I played WoW from launch to this expansion, yet I can’t stand lord of the rings.

Warcraft 1 is not a direct take from lord of the rings. Warcraft 2 is slightly closer to it and is still barely there. Warcraft 3 deliberately went for different design ideas that were based around things the genre had evolved into, a lot of which had gone through the cultural lens of 90s japanese media.
The idea that the visual sensibilities of the art team from WC3 onwards didn’t get a lot of inspiration from anime is very silly and frankly makes you sound insecure.

You’re right its a pointless fight but I just don’t see the Anime style in Samwise Didier art, sorry.
Also the idea that long ears on an elf is a Anime thing is funny because according to some, Tolkien described them as Leaf like which is much bigger then a human ear and a lot of historians say that the Christian portrayal of Demons and Satyr’s is where the Elf Ear came from because in the original folk lore, elves were described closer to looking directly like Humans then what they are in the mainstream media today.

Yeah that’s fair, gear doesn’t matter in FFXIV as long as you hit duty finder minimums so it’s at least easier to stay relevant.
