WoW Tokens are ruining the game

Questions:

  1. What if hundreds of thousands (or even millions) of players had simply quit the game because they couldn’t or wouldn’t pay for the subscription?
  2. What if Blizzard depends on sales of WoW tokens to even make a profit on the game?
  3. What if without WoW tokens there would be even fewer active players?
  4. What if the game had to be shutdown because it wasn’t making enough money without WoW tokens?

The issues you bring up are real. But the alternative (the game no longer existing or getting updated) is much worse, don’t you think?

You are right about the trapped audience.

We are held hostage by our desires here.

Dead topic but so ignorant I can’t help but post on this. You “Don’t think its a problem” when everything OP said clearly shows that it is. And who cares if you work 60 hours a week if you don’t have time to play the game then tough it’s an MMO. Why completely destroy the fun of making gold and playing the AH and pretty much trivialize gold farming a huge part of the game because you have to work and don’t have time to play. You shouldn’t be playing an MMO if you don’t have the time to invest, and if you don’t have the time then you will progress at a slower pace. I’ve had to work too similar hours but I get no sense of reward buying WoW tokens for gold. I get that sense of reward that embodies the entire game (Grind + Get reward) from grinding and actually taking the time in the game to make it therefore any gear I buy I earned IN THE GAME, not in RL. I’m sick and tired of blizzard catering to casuals don’t play if you don’t have the time! The catering to casuals over the years is why the game is dying. There are plenty of games you can play if you don’t have time for WoW.

When I see someone with Atiesh or rank 14 or Scarab Lord or Thunderfury those are awesome accomplishments in the game and the whole reason people play. That is all taken away with WoW tokens it’s completely p2w now. The absolute worst thing that could happen to an MMO. Your long boi doesn’t mean anything because nobody can tell if you bought it IRL or with the actual ingame currency. It trivializes the entire game.

8 months later, and still have plenty of

Shareholders are very happy with the token. Don’t expect it to go anywhere.

I definitely feel they need to address the advertising in LFG. The interface is clumsy and bare bones to begin with without having to scroll through all the spam, and this is for one of the central endgame features. It’s pretty shameful honestly, but then again Blizzard is a shameless company so… it’s not surprising

WoW tokens are bad no matter how you look at it. They exist to make more money and not to benefit the game in any way. This is known. The problem has blown up now with the carry culture. It’s so easy to spam buy tokens and get a carry these days. I know several people who bought the long boy mounts with tokens as well. It’s really sad.

I liked your intro but you jumped and reached too fast to make a believable point.

Effective communication is a minimal amount of words to allow the viewer to form their own opinion(s) aligned with yours.

Tokens are a contributing factor, but the underlying issue is the scummy playerbase. Eliminate that, games too hard to find good players/guild(main reason), or people placing too much value in epeen over enjoyment which is the entire purpose of this specific video game.

Blizzard could do some work, but the community in this game is down right rotten.

Except they barely did before tokens and now with restrictions on multiboxing its barwly an isaue now…bots on the other hand…

No, they aren’t.

People who want to buy gold will do it one way or another, this just gives them a legal way that won’t get their account banned.

I know because I know over a dozen people personally who bought gold from RMT sites prior to WoW Tokens.

They also allow people like me, who don’t have disposable income, but are unable to work, play this game.

Both of those occurred long before the token was ever a twinkle in some bean counter’s eye. And remove it won’t make either of those go away, people will just purchase gold and boost with RL cash instead. Like they did for years in the past.

Hell you can’t buy tokens on Classic and it has a rampant problems with the same issues.

The economy needs a revamp to a closed system, and these problems regulate themselves.

Originally WoW was designed by a group of designers that enjoyed the fun of game play. Now it’s become more of a product for consumerism that caters to individuals instant gratification desires.

Good, gold buyers should get banned. Blizzard shouldn’t cave and give a “legal” way to do it. Ban them all.

Whiners are ruining WoW Forum.
