WoW should be F2P if they going to add more and more microtansactions

“”""""NEW TOYS FOR ME? I PROMISE I WON’T BREAK THEM THIS TIME!
As both Arena and MDI grow, we want to give fans a chance to further support the programs—and have some fun along the way! Soon we will introduce two new in-game toys to our shop (details to follow). A portion of the sale of these toys will contribute to the prize pools for both WoW esports programs.

These toys will go on sale in the spring. As the proceeds will contribute to the year’s final LAN event prize pools for AWC and MDI, those prize pools will be announced later this year."""""

Essentially they are going to fund the new E-Sports prize pool by selling items in the shop. Me personally…I dont care, I wont buy it if I don’t want it. As long as it isn’t pay to win anyway

I suppose if you squint hard enough… I can tell by being a part of the problem of people selling carries that the token contributed to its massive explosion in popularity.

Not sure why you’re still defending this when you admitted you don’t really care but HERE WE GO
Not sure how you would know that it doesn’t cover the cost of a prize pool.
You have no way of knowing whether a game’s model has a bearing on e-sports prize pools. Though you could argue (and it definitely applies to games such as Path of Exile) that if the game is good, then its more than worth buying mtx.

I’m not sure where you got “support this if you choose” from their statement. I’m not even sure why fans have to support the e-sports section of Activision Blizzard’s likely biggest money maker. That’s the issue here, and I’d love for someone to explain why after the millions they make each year from WoW why players are expected to chip in now also?

Thats some mental gymnnastics. Blizzard provided the door for me to buy gear and they had no hand in it?

I’m not going to buy them at all because I don’t want to support the esports aspect of this game.

Everyone else is obviously entitled to do what they want with their money though.

Nice addition to the conversation by the way.

There is a body of work on the other side of that WoW Token purchase. Someone is buying that Token for game time with their earned gold. Even if the gold is being used to buy gear on the Auction House someone had to go farm that item. There is no loot box for cash. All there is is a bunch of pet and mounts and fluf. If you freak out now before they actually cross that line of pay to play it undermines any point you may have as “they we’re going to complain either way” if they ever cross it.

Of all the issues with the game at the moment this is a less then compelling argument.

It’s really not. To me a micro transaction is something you have to pay money for that only blizzard can give you.
You could have bought gold before pretty easily honestly. It was against the rules obviously but I think the main reason they made the token was to stop the gold sellers.

But ya that doesn’t register in my book as a micro transaction so if it does for you guys then it makes more sense why this is a problem for you.
For me, it is not and certainly not enough of an issue to change the business model for the entire game.

@ Nytecap & Yager Thanks!

I don’t care for e-sports and hate that a lot of things feel like a damn race instead of just enjoying the journey now … but whatever.

I think they’re trying to drum up more interest in something that people probably aren’t that interested in… a common out of touch with us theme that won’t stop.

To each their own. It doesn’t sound like it effects the game but when you consider character development and balancing it kinda does.

Maybe they’ll put a Zandalari trinket in the shop so I can give them money to finally get on developing that.

Very well said.

How do you know players are feed up with it? Have you polled a large number of players?

That’s exactly how I feel. It looks to me like the dungeons in BfA were designed around the MDI. They just are not fun for me at all. I hope their philosophy changes for next expansion.

A lot to unpack with this… first your wrong by your own definition since a player can’t sell you gold without going through blizzard or be banned or at least be doing something that could get them banned…

There in lies a problem. Thats your opinion. Im not really arguing over anyones arbitrary feeling on the meaning of the word. Im arguing against those who are saying this has no bearing on the game because its all cosmetic. Then we point out an obvious case when someone can whip out their wallet and make purchases that can in fact give them advantages over others and its “well thats not Blizzard” It is Blizzard. They created that door, they wanted that to happen. If they just owned up to it then it would go down so much smoother

I’d guess that empty friend lists and empty guilds would be an almost for sure sign that many players got fed up with a lot.

Right obviously having gold and using it to buy things you may not deserve has a baring on the game. It’s just not a micro transaction in my book. It’s not blizzard giving you the gold, and many people bought gold and got away with it for a long time.

I don’t think they should change the model for the game because they now allow you to officially buy gold. That’s all I can really say on this topic. If you guys disagree that’s cool!

And i do very much disagree in a PTW model in a game with a monthly sub

If you are looking for a guild on horde lemme know! Inviting anyone who is looking for an active community of long term friends and home for the future.

I’ve heard things are dire on alliance though. Maybe that’s the issue?

It is just using your own logic it is a micro transaction… You buy from blizzard. People sell to blizzard. At no point do players sell to players.
