WoW sent me to a fake blizzard site after downloading Overwolf

Better off using WoWup, Ajour, Cursebreaker or literally any of the open-source alternative addon managers over Overwolf.

Save yourself the headache. It’s been lovely for me personally with Ajour. Small, and fast with no bloat.

To all the people banging on about the overlay, the overlay is disabled by default and is only used for the ‘apps’ you can get for other games, There’s no wow apps in their app section. *Curseforge is technically an app but isn’t listed in the overlay section.

I’ve had no issues with it, no false positives (like the reddit link that has been spreading around, it’s a .txt file…) I’ll see how things go when the ads are intorduced, so far 0 issues, it closes just fine, nothing continues running in my task manager, I’ll be keeping an eye on it with glasswire anyway and if this PC gets malware ohwell, building a new pc when GPUS become available anyway.

As for “google and you’ll get evidence” the only thing I could really find by googling was forum posts on the blizz forums and a redit thread.

I’m pretty confident Eset will notify me of anything fishy, hell it even notified me when the smart tv on my network was attempting to do a firmware update.

The only bloat I’ve noticed is the parent program to be running, which does seem a bit silly (as others have stated you can have it close when you close curseforge) I think that just comes down to crappy design or ease of use for the designers, it seems more to be an app store and the curseforge client is an app added to said store.

No I don’t work for Overwolf, No they’re not paying me, No the EULA wasn’t anything to do with Overwolf, remove your tin foil hat. * I acknowledge they have had a shady past with some ads, but then again so has youtube.

" YouTube users’ computers were being slowed down by ads that hijacked them to secretly mine cryptocurrencies, security researchers say. The ads forced them to help malicious actors earn the cryptocurrency Monero, a bitcoin alternative, by hogging their computer processing power."

Use what ever you feel comfortable with, at the end of the day the OP was spreading misinformation which caused confusion and uproar with those less tech savvy.

Meh, overwolf is still scumbags…

But if one wants to use it knock ones socks off and use it to ones little heart can’t take it no more…
