Wow Quests disparity. Yes Some quests are fairly straight forward. But many of quests and quest chains and requirements for completion are just contradictory, confusing and frustrating. To the point that when I get completely bewildered I just stop and go do something else. Perhaps missing out on the chance to finish an achievement or missing out on a special drop. And sometimes staying gate-locked out of content.
Here’s the thing; I’m getting the feeling that Blizzard jobs out to 3rd party Devs quest creation assignments. These 3rd party contracted Developers. Aren’t always proficient in quest design. Why do I think that? Because of the glaring disparity between the quests quality. Because the quests in Wow range from quests that hold your hand by giving you exact information about the quest/quest-line, including Arrows to point the way. Markers on both mini-map and large map. Sparkling indicators as you travel around. And even sound/music to indicate that your in a quest location. In other words the quests are clearly spelled out.
But then there are quests that aren’t indicated at all. Quests that seemingly lead nowhere. quests requirements and completion requirements that are so convoluted that the don’t make sense. Quests that keep requirements hidden. Quest chains that are hidden inside other quest chains, so that it becomes a maddening experience trying to figure out what the exact requirements are? What you need to progress to completion.
Even utilizing the internet to google Wow quests. It becomes a daunting time consuming, unrewarding experience. The bottom line here is a lot of these quests are just badly created by people who don’t have a real vested understanding of quest creation. And don’t know what they are doing.
Its not that quest are complicated. For me its oh hey look this quest drops a kool mog, well you gotta do 500 BFA quest leading up to it. Stuff like that is a rager.
I’ve never been able to not complete a quest because I didn’t know what to do. wowhead always has a comment that helps. I think the OP just needs more practice? if all fails, there are addons that can help you.
Yes I fully agree and that points out the fact that they need not make quest so complicated and super extended with nonsense filler requirements.
Yes. I look at everything and watch Youtube videos. But the fact remains that some quests requirement are just unintelegible. Even on the internet some of the information is either out-dated and or misleading.
Agreed! And to add to this; Quests that after you have gone through the tedium, the quest giver informs you that to collect the reward you need to be exalted with some faction or some such other requirement that was not mentioned at all in the original quest giver information.
That is another thing. After doing long quest chains to get that special item you wanted so badly. You finally have finished farming reputation/renown with a faction in order to get access to their faction merchant and find out that you need an inordinate amount of some special currency to buy the item. That is just a plain turn off!
The only quest I gave up on was one of the mage order hall quests in legion. I’m still convinced it’s bugged for me because the next quest I needed was nowhere to be found. To this day I still don’t have the mount. I tried googling but didn’t find anything. Submitted a ticket but a GM basically just responded with “just do the quest lol”. Maybe I should check again now that it’s been some time.
I usually have a complete brain cramp on one or two quests each expansion that cause me to break down and look things up.
I’m still seeing players during hunts (particularly the waking shore) who are clearly stumped figuring out what to do and am reminded that it was only a month or so ago that was me.
Little speed bumps, but the frustration is fleeting. It’s were the quest starts feeling like an undocumented easter egg hunt where I draw my line.
Yeah, I could kind of get it if this was a classic complaint. I did Loremaster before the revamp and adding arrows and locations in blue on the maps. That would be understandable. I had to have wowhead open, because some of those quests would send you to the other continent or a different zone with no clue in the quest description.
Nowadays I don’t get it. It tells you what to do, where to go, and marks it on the map with an arrow leading you there.
