WoW Needs to Implement the FFXIV Commendation System

I’ve been playing MMO’s since EQ launched in 1999, WoW in 2004, and FFXIV in 2013. In queued dungeon, trial, and raid instances, FFXIV players are overall more friendly, helpful, and likely to communicate. There is often a chain reaction where one person says something in chat and more people jump in. Players almost always exchange greetings at the start of the dungeon. I think WoW needs this system badly to improve the social experience.

In FFXIV queued instances, each player can give a single commendation to another player at the end of the instance after the last boss is dead. You cannot give your commendation to anyone you were grouped with when you queued. No friend abuse. You are not required to give out a commendation

There are rewards for reaching commendation levels. The rewards include mounts, pets, transmog, etc. Players want commendations so there is incentive to go the extra mile. This can include playing harder, helping new players, communication, describing boss mechanics, coordination, Joking, etc.

If you get several commendations, there is a great sense of personal satisfaction that you were the MVP. A great value to the team. Feels better than loot! If you get all the coms, you feel like a rock star flying high on top of the world!

Players rarely communicate or chat in WoW queued dungeons and raids. If we had this commendation system, the social experience would be much better.

If WoW added the commendation system with several great unique rewards for hitting certain levels, Mounts, pets, transmog, only obtainable from the commendation system. I think the overall social experience would drastically improve and make it feel more like an MMO in queued instances. I would like it added for dungeons and LFR.

If you think about what the system does overall, which is makes the game a more friendly, interactive social experience, people try harder, better communication and coordination, helping new players, conversations, etc. The little nit picking negatives don’t outweigh the many benefits.

Lastly, in FF14 there is a currency reward for instance completion if there is a new player in the group. The system tells you at the start. Everyone is happy to see a new player cause they get more rewards. They are also more more likely to help. I think adding some kind of new player bonus for dungeons in WoW would be nice as well, but that would just be gravy. I consider the commendation system top priority.

Disclosure: I think WoW is the better game overall. FFXIV falls short in the end game, zone activities and populations, and pvp.

I dunno. It could make a slight difference, at least. But the cynic in me says this community is too far gone to be anything like FF’s.

Let’s pretend I never mentioned FFXIV and this was a totally new system. I’m telling you it works people want commendations badly.

Also, if one person chats it often spawns others to jump in. I’ve had many great conversations in FF dungeons.

P.S I never said mythic +. I understand with the timer people don’t have time to chat much.

LOL. Great minds think alike.

Seriously though OP, be prepared to get flamed for posting about FF14 here. It’s like the Antichrist to some people in these forums.

I liked that you could give people kudos in oQueue. RIP oQueue

As someone who played FFXIV since launch with every job maxed, I jumped ship recently because they started making really bad decisions.

Also I cared about comms at first, but at over 3k, I stopped caring.

WoW could make the max so high not many could reach it It’s not strictly about chat or helping either. Players would try harder to do more dps, better tanking and heals, etc.

I’m tempted to ask what, but this thread isn’t technically about 14 and I don’t want to derail it. That’s a shame though, especially if you left before Shadowbringers.

They already sort of have this system at the end of a HOTS match. Would be alright in WoW.

isnt that kind bad for people who wanna play with their friends? or if you can recommend people in your fix group isnt that exploitable ?

This community would rather protest against such a system then actually embrace it to be honest - I just don’t see anything changing. People justify it by wanting to police themselves and be their own person, but honestly I think they just love being a total jerk to others.

If you queue up with friends, you can’t commend them, no. Only randoms.

Nah, I left a few months after the launch of SB. The fundamental bad decision making can be tied mostly to class design. They started doing that thing WoW did, where everything started getting super dumbed down, and many jobs are now just either a copy of another job, lost its identity, or is a shell of its former self.

My main complaint about ffxiv has always been how safe and sterile it is. They’ve always been afraid of doing anything different or taking any risks at all. SB is the culmination of that design philosophy. Story is good, tho.

In the FF system, you are not allowed to give the commendation to anyone you queue with.

You can’t commend people in a pre-made party.

yeah people wont like being force to play with randoms for exclusive rewards

Edit : quoting everyone so nobody feels left out, ty for all your answers

Oh yeah the XIV system was great… “This person is a lala so they get a comm. Ooooo this person has a cute glam they get a comm! Oh no this person is a roe, no comm! Oh no this healer is DPSing and my hp goes under 80% no comm!”

… This guy pretty much covers the rest.
