WoW Needs to Implement the FFXIV Commendation System

It is. You can’t commend anyone you queue with.

I like the idea, this community is very hard on new players.

There are situations where that happens. However, the vast majority of the time you give your com to the players who did great.

I got all the commendations as a roe.

Yeah especially when it comes to healers. Still a tad salty about that.

Honestly I’m worried that Eureka was their “lets try something new!” thing. And for some reason they seem to think it was received really well and it… wasn’t. I hope they don’t try it again for the relic weapons.

This playerbase doesn’t seem to like much of anything anymore lol

DPS players who play every DPS and who are actually skilled enough to know if the other DPS player is actually doing their job well, has their rotation mastered, and makes smart use of utility, sure. They’ll com the other DPS.

However, what you’re saying is just flat out wrong. almost all cases result in the dpses picking the healer or tank to com, and the tank and healer comming eachother. This stems from both long queue times, and it actively being a lot easier to tell if the tank and healer are doing their jobs.

The bottom line is players try harder in a variety of ways because of the system. It can only help not hurt!

That’s not true, my dps jobs get tons of commendations.

I’m outta here for tonight I’ll check back tomorrow.

That’s every single blizzard game sadly. I can’t think of one that honestly promotes being a new player.

FF14 builds their games around story, community, dress up, and housing. If they don’t keep these things alive they have nothing.

Ya human nature moves to the selfish needs so once those things outweigh the good, people jump ship. So it’s why Blizzard I believe never implemented anything like that or won’t.

I like this idea. Hell, it can’t make things worse

Actually I’m wrong. I forgot, in the few months before I left it changed a bit. DPS players were sick of tanks and healers getting all the coms, so now it’s basically the DPSes com eachother and the tank and healer com eachother.

That’s actually kind of more toxic.

Most of the coms are given for good performance.

The commendation system is great if you are a tank or healer. Anything else? Hahaha, no.

So now you’re talking about withholding coms as a carrot on a stick, eh?

Sounds like it’s corrupted. That was fast.

You can’t really judge the performance of others in FFXIV easily unless you have very high knowledge of the game. You can sit here and pretend that it’s based on skill, but a majority of runs it’s just com the tank or healer. Always has been.

I haven’t heard a word about this so it’s not as widespread as you think it is, at least. Personally I only ever give mine to players that play exceptionally, no matter what role.

I should clarify that you don’t have to give your com to anyone.

Lastly, I know people get caught up on all the small details. However, if you think about what the system does overall, which is makes the game a more friendly, interactive, social experience. Makes people try harder, better coordination, helping new players, etc. The little nit picking negatives don’t matter

It’s not something people really talk about. It’s just a shift in the overall thought process people have for the game.

It’s something I noticed after a very long time of playing. I asked some people about it and saw some threads about it. It’s one of those collective unconscious things, where people were generally dissatisfied with something, but it was something each individual could resolve themselves, so they did. Resulting in the DPS players tossing eachother a com much more often.

TBH, there are ABSOLUTELY situations where I’ll give a DPS a com for being good, but it’s quite rare. Usually I don’t find DPS players to be so good that I take notice, so when I do they’re absolutely deserving of a com.

The big one is if they’re managing to keep up with or pass me in dps they get a comm, because I’m a massive tryhard. The other one is if I’m tanking and I see one of the DPSes actually throwing out utility for me in correct situations. easy com.

Yeah unfortunately, and it’s even harder to notice since ACT is “illegal”. I’ll forget to keep it open most of the time, or I purposely leave it closed because seeing many randoms’ dps is just depressing.

I agree with all of that, the problem is that random queue is only avaible for LFD/R which a lot of us don’t actually do and if you allow pug to give com people will just com their friends.
I think its a good system but hard to implement on WoW

I haven’t tried said game, but I will say that during my last break from WoW, I gave GW2 a try and enjoyed it immensely. As long as you stayed away from WvW, people were generally pleasant, helpful, and willing to explain how things worked.

Sad to say, but I don’t think the commination system you mentioned would matter overall. Good portion of the player base is just angry and jaded. I do think that since the Classic exodus people have been more decent and helpful than usual. Too many people have this game tied to their identity, just look at all the flame threads over gear. What someone else does or has shouldn’t affect their game enjoyment, but they can’t let it go.
