WoW minimizes and kinda crashes but not really

Hello Tech Support!

I have recently been having weird issues with only WoW since I upgraded my computer’s mobo, gpu, and cpu on Monday. Prior to the upgrade, I had no issues with WoW. So what is happening is a few seconds to minuets after selecting my toon and loading in, my game will freeze, the screen will completely disappear as if the application has been minimized or closed, it even disappears from my task bar. But literally 1 second later it comes back to the task bar, and the screen maximizes again and its like I the game never crashed. I am still logged in, just sometimes after coming back, the mouse cursor is not visible only in-game. I can see the mouse on my second monitor. It will continue to do this every 2 mins while playing. I have done Scan and Repair, done a clean install of WoW, uninstalled my video driver and reinstalled the newest one. Really trying to avoid doing a OS reinstall if possible. Any advice would be helpful.
Here is a short video of what is happening https://youtu.be/s4Cqj3FfsqQ

I have same issue appeared randomly.

Played on my zh-tw account.

I found the gx.log in World of Warcraft_retail_\Logs.
Some failed record on log about GPU device instance suspended.

Do you have ray tracing enabled? This exact issue happens to me when I have ray tracing enabled. It closes, resets, and comes back with ray tracing disabled and occasionally my mouse will be invisible.

I do not have RT enabled. A friend thinks it a power issue since the powercords are daisy-chained instead of their own seperate 8pins. I will try to rework the powercables and see if that works. If that doesn’t solve it, I will put my old Card back in to see if the problem persist.

i too have this issue. although it doesnt do it constantly. and i am not on a GTX , i am on a rx5700 XT. sometimes the cursor dissapears , sometimes it doesnt.

Thanks blizzard for responding… I’m glad I pay money to play this game to be left hangong on a game breaking issue

Following since I too have the same exact issue

bumping cause i have the same issue with the game minimizing and occasionally my mouse cursor disappears

here is my dxdiag. Not sure what else to do to make Blizz respond. Going on 2 weeks. Whats the point of paying if i cant play.

BTW I have un-daisy chained my gpu power cables and the problem still persist. I have just run System File Checker that found some corrupt files. I will test to see if this resolved my issues.

EDIT: problem still persist after System File Checker.

I have this same issue running a 5600x with the 3070, to keep the game stable I put the Graphics API to DirectX 11 in video settings, otherwise every time I boot up the window freezes/closes like in the video provided by OP, and If I keep it in DirectX 12 for long enough the game will eventually close and I lose my mouse cursor, or get complete disconnection from the graphics card and it loses signal and get a 5-6 second black screen as a result. I think something is up with current graphics drivers or a conflict with DirectX 12 is causing these issues.

EDIT: I have tried using DDU to uninstall drivers update to latest Nvidia drivers, system file checker, windows memory diagnostic, updating to latest windows version, problem still persists

Howdy Jt,

It does sound like it may be related to the issues mentioned with the latest Nvidia drivers. Try the steps listed here:
https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/main-thread-nvidia-460xx-driver-flickering/766732/176

I found the solution! After running memtest86 it turns out one of my RAM modules was defective

My advice to OP and others in this thread: Check your dxdiag file for error codes after a crash. In my case it was live kernel event 141 after googling it was likely a hardware failure. So I ran diagnostic tests for each part and by process of elimination narrowed down the problem.

Any news on this? This just started happening to me within the last week.

I’ve also had the same thing happen to me and it’s really annoying, very disrupting to do Mythic+ and Raids like this
Also I don’t have nvidia so it’s not that

EDIT: OH THANK GOD I THINK I FIXED IT, it’s apparently because I had the MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner overlay on. So maybe anything that overlays on top of the game causes this kind of thing to happen
