WoW keeps replacing its leaders with generic figureheads - here's why it's a problem

Yeah, honestly it just felt incredibly cheap. :pensive:

It’d be cool if it was later revealed that Zelling was hit with a sleeping shot by Sylvanas to be secretly questioned later and was kept somewhere, then later hidden in secrecy to live his uh … ‘life’ with his family or friends who had the same fate (undeath) when the whole Sylvanas drama was done with — we could bring him back into the fold :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I thought it would’ve also been cool if ‘Forsaken’ Tidesages and such joined the order through other means than simply from Sylvanas & the Val’kyr raising them — Such as void magics raising them, voodoo power radiation or Drust / Wicker / Witch magics; upon gaining free will then finding their path with those who have a similar fate …

It’d give some more fleshed out identity and perhaps some more lore-progression for the Forsaken too (along with some customisation ideas).

Loved the Councilward Merrix storyline!
Had me pulling a massive smirk, haha

:100:

Don’t pretend to delude me with the Dark Magics.
I was there when they were written.

gotta love the constant downplaying of why people dislike calia/ why they like sylvanas

I was going to post this on my Forsaken, but was afraid people would play at being intentionally obtuse, and say i was “”“acting like I was a different person agreeing with myself.”“”

Light undead basically invalidates an entire cosmic force that’s supposed to have power over the dead.

I mean, not really.
But to be clear, no one should create undead that are equal to death undead.
Just like no one should be able to build better robots than order.

As an undead, Calia should be of lesser quality than Sylvanas, for example.

Because the Hearthstone card is the most notable thing about her and it had her as a badass human witch hunter. Turning her into a worgen would be a downgrade compared to that. Agree with the rest of your post though.

The trailer for that exact Hearthstone expansion features two human witch hunters who surprise-surprise transform into worgen at the very end. Why is being a badass werewolf witch hunter a downgrade?

Incidentally, I have problems with Baine for this exact reason.

Practically EVERYTHING Baine has ever done since Cata has been in aid of the Alliance. His best friend is Anduin. He’s pals with Jaina. The only tauren character he’s ever had an actual relationship with is Mayla, and last time we saw Mayla she was chilling in Stormwind for no reason during BfA.

I suppose this is what we get when we spend two whole expansions with the “main” villain being the leader of the Horde. The Alliance become the good guys by default, and the good Hordes buddy up with them.

Horde leaders are either repeatedly villain-batted (Garrosh/Gallywix/Sylvanas/Nazgrim) or pointlessly slaughtered (Vol’jin/Cairne/Rastakhan/etc) while Alliance leaders are continually neutered and declawed (Genn/Tyrande/Jaina/Turalyon) in order to ensure they keep the moral high ground in every situation.

Hearthstone’s writers have way better ideas than WoW’s writers.

Preaching to the choir.

Alliance leaders keep getting DBZ power scaling creep so it looks even more remarkably stupid when they don’t use it, or get Worfed.

Except Jaina, who uses it to float a boat up to Lordaeron with no apparent justification.

Thrall got a power boost for one expansion, never used it once against the Alliance, and had to give it up, and people got mad about it, lmao.

On the Horde side it was inevitable. They keep killing off major characters and never develop new ones….

On the Alliance side it was a choice. I think they see it as a process. The old characters are still around as the new ones grow into their roles.

You do realize this is what happens to all of us the players? We have all just gotten more powerful over the years to the point that now the bad guys are the ones fearing us/using our destructive nature for their ends(see Xal)

We are the heroes of the game, though. I think it is dumb how powerful we are as well, and seems to tie the story’s hands on being able to convincingly tell high resolution grounded stories, but at least that serves a purpose. Nothing is gained by turning Malfurion into a demigod or putting an orbital holy space laser in the sky only to turn around and pretend they don’t exist because it will trivialize virtually every narrative decision going forward.

I mean, him being capture by Xavius was a way to show Xavius leveled up and that you cant remain complacent. That even though we /heroes gain power we are not invincible.

We have had space lasers since Warcraft 2. It is not the “I win button” you think it is:

We’re not invincible, we have just happened to kill every godlike being we’ve encountered without fail.

Mage blasting a portal is not an orbital spacecraft with a concentrated light laser macguffin that was required for us to topple The Burning Legion on their home turf. It’s funny to me you’d choose this video, given that Khadgar is part of our invading force on Argus. If that’s just as good as the Vindicaar, why did we need the Vindicaar?

If Dalaran had teleported to Argus it could do the same thing. Heck it blasted the door the Tomb of Sargeras.

Mostly because Argus doesnt have the same lay line magic as Azeroth/it is a fel infested mess.

My point remains the vindicaar blowing up Antorus’s wall is no more impressive then say someone gathering a bunch of Azerite and using it to blow a hole in Daelin’s Gate.

The Vindicaar argument always puzzled me a bit. It’s not an orbital death star, it’s a glorified transport space shuttle with a reasonably sized laser strapped to it as an afterthought.

The most damage it’s ever done is blow a 2 meter hole in a door. The Xenedar (a much larger, more powerful ship) was taken out with a single blast from a Legion weapon.

Using it in combat would be like strapping a gatling gun to a lunar module and trying to dogfight air force jets. You’d be getting a priceless piece of draenei deep space technology shredded with goblin azerite rockets.

Honestly Blizzard should have just given some off handed comment about it not having enough power/busy trying to recharge or some other such and that would be enough for me.

In fact, I wouldnt mind alot of the small lapses in story building if Blizzard gave us some more off handed/small answers here and there.
