The people who buy wow tokens for game time are an extreme minority.
The fact that there is a huge 3rd party racket built around this and just about any MMO exemplifies this. The fact that blizzard uses a token makes it main steam. Trade chat is full of spammers again.
You can literally buy wow tokens and do everything in the game instead of what it really takes. This is peak pay to win unlike anything else.
You used to be able to trust AOTC or KSM or a pvp rating for competence. this is no longer the case.
No WoW is only minor pay to win in some aspects. It’s fairly low on the spectrum. Play a real pay to win game and then come back here. There is a striking difference.
You could buy boosting services on shady chinese websites and stuff before the token… a small amount of people did this and often got banned if found out. The token just made it available in game. This legitimizes pay2win and actively promotes it.
How can you not see this? Blizzard just gets their cut now.
The wow token you buy for gold can only be used on blizzard balance or game time and there’s a limit on how many you can buy a year.
Unless you think there’s some weird black market overwatch blizzard balance scheme, apart from the pet, mount, and expansion purchases, the vast majority of wow tokens are used on game time.
You literally can buy gold for real life cash and buy anything you want in this game, carries in ranked PvP, carries in end game raiding. WoW is majorly pay to win.
There is very little difference between buying power via a shop (some other pay to win games) or buying gold and using it to gain power.
That would be true if the carried player could do that content without the people carrying them. Getting a glad carry doesn’t make you a glad player.
They’re still getting the glad rewards and the glad items, gaining character power and winning over people they fight against in the arenas.
Completely pay to win and always has been since the dawn of MMOs like Asheron’s Call, UO and EQ. The difference between those games and WoW is blizzard actively sells the currency used, whereas paying to win happened in those games, but Turbine for example actively fought against it.
