What was your initial reaction when you saw this on youtube/ heard about it on the forums if you were playing during the time?

No idea what you’re talking about. But in game funerals have been a thing since Vanilla. I’ve had to coordinate three thus far.

I… honestly thought it was kinda funny.
I hope someone raids my funeral if I die and my husband and friends decide to hold an in-game memorial, honestly. I’ll tell them to make it in war mode.
ETA: FWIW, the person’s family said she probably would’ve loved the PvP and to have been immortalized in her favourite game as she was. One of her old guildies made a comment on reddit ages ago saying they knew that the Alliance were coming and a lot of them were still willing to risk it by wearing RP gear and being completely ill-equipped for battle in a contested zone on a PvP server. He also said he still has the purple shirt that the deceased player made him as a Christmas present one year, which is really sweet.

Funny for outsiders but I imagine for the players involved it can send the wrong message.

A little bit different. This in game funeral was held in Winterspring and announced on a couple of blogs. But it was on a pvp realm. The other faction (the Alliance) youtubed them making a giant raid, going after them, and annihilating them in their moments of prayer for a little girl who died in real life, or something like that, with heavy metal music in the background.
I thought it was disgustingly hilarious. PvP on PvP servers, who would have imagined. Thankfully we don’t have PvP servers anymore so players can’t complain about WPvP anymore.
is this a recent thing? because if they did it back in the day on a pvp server-
oh that one. yeah, they should have done transferred to an RP PVE server before that funeral.
i’m more interested in the wedding that’s coming up where the bride and groom want everyone to attend with war mode enabled.

It is not something I would ever choose to be part of. I could not bring myself to disrupt a funeral in a game for any reason.
That being said, you have to know that the toxies are going to drool over the prospect of ruining something like this if you are holding it on a PvP server.

someone dies every second of everyday almost without fail so I say crash a few funerals and bring life to otherwise bleak occasions.

Was actually attending that funeral. As the alliance side. Bunch of us has no idea what we were doing, were told to take our invite and accept the summons so that we could take out a big group. Didn’t find out til later that it was a funeral.
