Wow, Final Fantasy XIV is better than WoW

You don’t think that 45 minutes of running around one of those enormous, confusing cities doing fetch and carry quests is an enthralling start to a game?

It is a bloody miracle this game lasted more than three months.

I wouldn’t say “standard”, it’s pretty split down the middle whether there’s heavy RP in the beginning. Both 8 and 9 had heavy RP segments before those games got rolling for instance.

FFXIV is a more story-focused game. Also, I don’t remember it feeling like it takes that long to start beating on some rabbits. The bigger grind is having to do all these MSQ “world quest” like grinds to actually progress the game. You’ll grind for several hours and then fight one LFR raid boss and then go back to grinding again. It’s pretty rough. I like the dungeons while leveling though.

The spectacle is amazing for some fights though even in LFR. The fight Primal you fight, Ifrit, looks super cool. Titan was super cool as well. I don’t remember ever being wow’d by any dungeon bosses while leveling in WoW. WoW leveling is mostly completely devoid of any feeling of emotion until you get to at least WoD? And even then as cool as WoD leveling is, you meet the Warlords but never fight them.

I respect that FFXIV makes you play Castrum Meridanum and Praetorium even if they are painfully long because it gives you a true resolution to the beginning story arc. The Empire is established as a threat, you undermine them in quests, and then you fight their Imperial might before being allowed to start progressing towards the next expansion.

I like WoW. I don’t like how characters look in FF. I wanted to play another mmo at one point and figured I’d look into it so I watch a character creation video and It makes me not want to not even try it.

I don’t mind that, SWTOR was story based and I thought what there was of it was good. But it also let you actually do things much sooner, and introduced complexity later.

Like, I just want to see if I like the combat animations, and I can’t do that easily.

It’s worth noting that you can change to other job classes, so you only have to really go through that once. If you want to start leveling up a Paladin but were a Warrior, you can just swap jobs. MSQ only needs to be done one time and beyond that you can level up each class.

I reached max level and still have sub time but the game gets very boring after a while. I like the story but it’s way too sappy/sentimental much of the time and the zones leave a lot to be desired.

My favorite part of the game was Stormblood which is what most ff14 players like the least. I liked the villains and guerrilla warfare. I’m not sure what most people do at end game either. I think it’s just raid and literally nothing else.

No, glamour is the true end game, come on now

Worst part of ARR is that mess
They’re pruning it next patch, but apparently only by like 13%… step in the right direction, but we’ll see if it’s enough

I think the amount of dialog it has is too much. The dungeons and classes can be quite fun though, but I’m not really into the whole weaving playstyle thing. Also don’t really like that one character can do everything it feels cheap imo.

Yeah the dialogue is way too much tbh.

About time!
I’m looking forward to getting all of my jobs up so I can really just grind through old content for that sweet, sweet glamour.
Can’t play good if you don’t look good!

… I find myself busier over there and I haven’t even unlocked the latest expansion’s raid they look boring.

What do you do? I think many people have just played WoW too much. I enjoyed ff14 but if I had never played WoW it would be the far, far superior game.

I will say that the God King in Heavensward was way cooler than Skovald. “For my first act as God King I hereby sentence you… to die!”

Heaven forbid they use cutscenes and story to introduce you to the world before they start sending you on fetch quests.

I started a rogue and the combat animation for the only attack I had made it look like I was break dancing. Ended up switching to Lancer and then Samurai.

I remember this happening, but right now, Balmung is currently open to character creation. Since the pandemic stay-at-home orders began, Balmung has been open to character creation more than it has not.

If they could have done that in an entertaining way it would have been fine. They failed.

You forgot the biggest negative OP, the fact we would have to play a final fantasy game ewwww.

You’re free to think that. When I look back on ARR now I remember it being very boring, but at the time I had a blast playing through it.

Sure beats leveling in WoW where there’s no clear story or narrative to be found, so it’s just 120 levels of fetch quests.

So can anyone explain what you do at max level in ff14? I still have time but it seems to just be raid and transmog. Or level another job.
