but ffx14 weapons make wow weapons look like poo poo ps no forced quest
I’m downloading the trial at this moment. I’m not intending to leave WoW by any means, but I’m… curious.
It’s free, and only 37GB download, you can play it up to level 60, all dungeons/trials, really no reason not to try it, just be warned there’s so much content it seems overwhelming at first, so may take a few days to get used to.
I had to touch upon this.
A large part of the Final Fantasy games have not been “anime” at all.
That FFXIV is too “anime” is blatant ignorance and in a sense racist too as it portrays an overall dislike for anything that comes out of a foreign country - as is befitting many older American generations.
As someone who have watched anime and read manga, from Beserk to Cowboy Bepob, FFXIV is by no means ‘anime’, it is nowhere close to being anime, and the claim that it is, is plain ignorance and plainly shows a dislike for the Japanese, but as said, that is befitting many older generations of Americans - ignorance and racist tendencies. It is also no surprise, that this is commonplace in WoW, seeing as the game is largely played by 30+ year olds.
In terms of cinematic style

FFXIV is by far more “western” than FF7: Remake is. FF7 has an artistic style very commonly associated with anime and manga, large eyes to better portray emotions. But this is not common in FF games.

That is aside by side comparison of FFXIV and WoW visuals. In terms of visual it is not really that much different, FFXIV leans more towards a more realistic style, however, whereas WoW leans more towards a coartooney style. But FFXIV is in no way ‘anime’ and one would know if he/she did actually watch anime or read manga.
At the end of the day.
We have to remember that Beserk

The anime with a style much similar to western cartoons… is in fact also an anime, but the manga is far better.
Dark Souls is also ‘anime’.
I think you’re pretty delusional if you think FFXIV isn’t anime. It has so many tropes.
The story, the “friendship is power”, silent protagonist, “chosen one” protagonist, it’s all there in one big package you just need to kinda look at it.
Edit: Forgot because I hated this stupid questline but the entirety of Hildibrand… like, come on buddy.
I don’t get why the design of a game and whether or not it’s too “anime” really matters so much to so many people. It’s like, it must be doing something right if that’s one of the biggest things to criticize.
I mean come on, you all play World of Warcraft. Clearly aesthetic design is not the actual problem, here.
These tropes does not make an anime, they are found in quite a few media across the world, even in World of Warcraft.
Every solution to a big threat in WoW is basically “friendship is power”. It also has a chosen one trope, the biggest problem with WoW’s story is just that it isn’t very consistent with that - the WoW story is much like the Skyrim story - it wants you to be the Dragonborn and a random nobody adventurer simultanously, it just doesn’t work as a narrative, gotta commit to a power fantasy or don’t bring it in at all.
I do find it to be rather irrational. But honestly, in a sense even I am willing to look at it as a form of racism. It is a irrationality born out of a mixture of ignorance and a dislike of something foreign, mentioning that one does not like an artstyle is quite fine as far as I am concerned, I also prefer WoW’s style over FFXIVs, but disliking ‘anime’ entails something entirely different. It is too wide a scope, too wide a judgement, because anime is not just one style, it is any cartoon that comes out of Japan specifically, and anime is also used for any cartoon within Japan, even Disney cartoons are ‘anime’ in Japan.
Anime, as far as the western audience is concerned, refers to any animated product coming out of Japan, anime, however, is not just one artstyle. So it is fairly safe to assume that there is some racist undertones there, which is not surprising when it comes from the US, really.
You clearly don’t know what anime is. FFXIV isn’t anime.
The protagonist isn’t silent, isn’t the chosen one (which you’d know if you followed the story) and none of this is the theme.
TLDR; you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Have played the game since 2014.
I know what I’m talking about. Have you seen the playerbase? Men in dresses, going crazy over “bunnybois”
Have you done the Hildibrand questline? If you have, you cannot tell me with a straight face the game isn’t trying to be anime.
Men in dresses going crazy is quite common in WoW too though
You seem to be intimitately knowledgeable about the playerbase, knowing the actual gender of every player behind every character.
The wildest reactions I have seen to bunnybois, comes from those who actually make Final Fantasy XIV content, and usually female.
Ah yeah, Big Blue Dress. I remember, a classic.
But unfortunetly, I legitmately mean a dress. Not a robe.
They made the 2B dress all genders, along with the wedding dress from eternal bond all gender.
Yes, a bride’s wedding dress can be worn “Everyone”
Bunny outfit from Gold Saucer as well.
The game is campy af.
Male characters in WoW can also wear dresses
And many do because it is humorous.
I don’t see what the problem is.
Slick trick, moving the goal posts from “is anime” to “trying to be anime.”
It isn’t anime, which is stylistic, and you clearly didn’t follow the story. Otherwise, you’d know that your character isn’t silent and the context for being “the warrior of light” means its not a chosen one kind of deal.
Heres a little rogue vs. ninja comparison;
Lets compare WoW’s Rogue here: https:*//imgur.com/a/c6Aws5L
&
FF14’s Ninja here: https://imgur.com/a/NEf5jgL
Ninja Mounted: https://imgur.*com/a/tlsnldO
Idk tough to say which is better. Rogues are just so categorically stealthy while Ninja is more Elegant. Really tough to say which look vibes best with this archetype. Thoughts?
This. I don’t play FF but I do play ESO, and this is true with ESO vs WoW. ESO does do a lot of things better than WoW but not at everything, so it is safe to assume that with FF as well.
I am going to say this. Story wise in MMOs… RuneScape always wins. I would need to compare FF’s story to RuneScape sometime to see how it truly stacks up.
Sadly for an RPer both the game and community are poorly optimized.
Though if the next x pack is another shadowlands I may be looking for another MMORPG.
Of course it isn’t anime, but the entire aesthetic is anime inspired; it looks anime, and it made to appeal to anime fans.
If you want a Good mmo alternative to WoW, stick with ESO, the best fantasy lore and world outside of Lord of the Rings. If you want the best graphics in mmos, check out BDO.
BDO isn’t bad once you spend some serious time customizing the UI, and even on a old system like mine (gpu= 750ti, i7-3370K cpu) I can run it quite successfully on medium settings and it looks incredible, especially the character models.
