I too enjoy both. But the best feature on ffxiv is the pc/ps4 cross platform support.
If WoW had console support I would be in heaven. I love the ps4 controller setup in Ffxiv. It’s glorious. And before you say wow could never do it, it could and wow classes have less abilities to manage.
Nah I like WoW better cause I’m a fan of blizzard. But not saying I hate FF or anything. I don’t know it. But by just seeing how popular that game is. Good choice .
As opposed to WoW? It hasn’t been open world since Vanilla, and even then Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms were clearly chopped into separate instances. Outlands is its own instance, Pandaria is its own instance, Northrend is its own instance, Broken Isles is its own instance, and Kul Tiras is its own instance. Same with your criticism of the bosses. Granted, you could argue that World Bosses are open-world, but every single instanced raid boss in WoW is you locked into an circular room with no way to escape without killing the boss or dying to it. Just like in FFXIV. I’m not saying that your description is wrong, but I don’t think it’s a differentiating factor given that both MMOs share the same characteristics in these regards.
To be honest, that’s not so bad, in my opinion. I like the idea of being “done” with a game and having an opportunity to rest on laurels and pursue obscure achievements. I felt like I could kind of do that 10 years ago. These days, playing WoW feels very much like running on a treadmill.
It’s compatible with healthy gaming habits. The idea that one game should be designed to consume every moment of leisure time that you have is unhealthy and turns off most people. WoW has a horrible reputation among most of my coworkers and relatives for that very reason.
You can still enjoy WoW while not being glued to it.
Let me put it this way, I’m not a mythic raider or even a heroic one really. I don’t do incredibly high keys or even average keys.
But the challenge is there, it’s always there for me to put as much or as little into it as I want to, with incentive to keep going as long or as much as I want. I still have a targeted challenge that rewards me for that scaled difficulty.
In 14, you really do get finished with content incredibly fast and there’s no way to extend it on your pace, be it casual or hard core. Is just, there it is.
Yeah, that’s absolutely true, and the only reason i dont play FFXIV as religiously as i’ve played wow in the past. I love 14 to death and i think the class designs in it are equal to none, but i always wind up without something to keep me playing the game once i’ve done all their is to do.
It’s a wierd comparison to wow, where i dont feel like any class feels particularly outstanding to play outside of maybe Hit combo windwalker monk or Glimmer holy paladin, yet there’s no shortage of stuff i can find to busy myself with when i’m feeling wow.
Not defending FF14 but wow’s combat feels slower and non-responsive at higher-tiers of gameplay to be honest. Wow feels like I am playing turn-based games sometimes =_=
First this is YOUR opinion. What’s the best movie of all time? it’s a matter of OPINION.
There is no ‘best’ anything it’s what you LIKE. I played FF don’t like it AT ALL.
Who is the best band, best artist, best actress, the list is endless it’s ALL your opinion. It may LOOK better but there again beauty is in the eye of the beholder… I don’t like Anime…
ooh that’s going to earn a lot of backlash, but I don’t care I think its stupid. I don’t want to see animation I want to see REAL people my preference… I don’t want to see some cartoon fantasy game… it’s horrible.
To actually post on-topic. FF14 is the only other MMO that brings me in and keeps me. I’d been playing steadily since 2015, during the lead-up to Heavensward. I don’t focus down on any of the end-game content but even with all that I feel like there is still plenty I can do.
Want to see things from a fresh perspective? Pick up another class to level. Work on crafting. Do Beast Tribe dailies and earn their rewards. Work on my Relic Weapons. Run through the daily Roulette and get together the gear for each class I have leveled. The story is really good, as far as Final Fantasy goes, and the side-content is exhaustive.
People saying it gets boring or that there’s nothing to do, are doing the absolutely bare minimum to try and squeeze the fun out of the game and never take into consideration that FF14 isn’t really meant to be played constantly 24/7. It’s a slower game in general by design. Even the Lead Producer, Naoki Yoshida, has encouraged players to take breaks from the game whenever they need to.
It boggles my mind that one can see XIV as any more “anime” than WoW…
Even just the main story will probably take longer unless he really rushes through. They should have him for at least a few if the end-of-expansion lack of groups doesn’t put him off too much from endgame.
Let’s make him a melodramatic but stupidly easy cliched dungeon boss with annoying mechanics. Check.
Yet for some reason WoW is beating FFXIV in the RP department. This is because FFXIV let their playerbase get away with a lot of stuff WoW did not and this was the result.
As an RPer if that is what makes up their RP community I don’t want anything to do with that game.
Sometimes letting the players do what they want with little to no supervision does not work.
