Oh right I forgot for a second its one time, so used to Wow’s format haha.
I never said WoW is dead but if they want to continue to matter they need to open up their eyes and see why the player base is jumping ship and change course cause if they don’t change course they will be dead in the water soon.
I just really wish New World had some more player-focused activities beyond dungeons and PvP.
Thus far New World is just another MMO where you rush to endgame and do your dungeons and do the occasional instanced PvP.
I talked to a friend, who plays the game extensively, about the crafting and as he mentions, there is nothing really significant about it outside of the fishing being more of an additional minigame other than just click the bauble when it shakes, and that is about it.
I have watched streamers play it and I can see what he means, there really isn’t anything exceptional about its crafting at all, nothing worth hyping up about. I mean, crafting seems more useful in terms of food and gear, but that does not make the crafting unique. You do the same as any other MMORPG, you go for materials, you craft stuff, you get higher level, you go for higher level materials, you craft higher level stuff.
The combat and to an extend the PvP is the most unique parts of the game. The combat is very actioney, and the PvP makes changes in the game world as the three factions compete for zones, and people can allegedly be elected mayors of the town which the factions take over and they decide what the city’s focus should be, fortification, economy, or something like that. The invasion PvP appearantly works as such that a faction declared official war, then there is a 50 vs 50 player battle, all 100 having voluntarily signed up for the battle. The purpose for the attackers if to capture a flag in the fort or city, and the purpose for the defenders is to… well, defend, last until the timer runs out. It is not much different from Elder Scrolls Online’s Cyrodiil with the exception that it changes the game world for everyone, rather than just changing a specific zone.
The rest of the game is more of the same though. You go to town, pick up a whole lot of quests, you go out complete, return and turn in, get levels, get coin, etc. The crafting is also very similar to New World, it isn’t really more exceptional that gathering items, and then click on the item you want to craft. If you want more crafting mini game, then Final Fantasy XIV is still the way to go, as the crafting jobs are classes in their own right. You get abilities which you can use to influence whether the item you craft will be high quality or low quality, the gear can help you with that.
That is what I have taken note of in regards to New World.
The PvP is probably the most interesting aspect of it in my opinion, and I could be tempted to buy the game simply for that aspect alone.
Also this weekend, another thread making a claim without any official numbers
One of the top performing brand new shiny games. Again it’s setting records.
I think it has several niche audiences and also appeals to a much broader player base then WoW or FF. So what New World does from here on out and with new content updates they could really become a monster MMO.
The problem with WoW is there is no journey anymore it’s about instances and funneling ppl into M+ or Arena. Which is bad for the majority of the player base. Most players don’t want to do those activities. So a game like New World where it’s play how you want will appeal to a large amount of players. It’s more of an MMO.
Agreed they got lazy over the last few years and their arrogance thinking they would never be challenged has put them in a catastrophic position. Other gaming companies are listening to the players and providing a game they want to play.
I’m 32 lvl and haven’t even done a dungeon yet. I personally don’t like dungeons, never have. I don’t mind doing them a few times but want to be done with them so I can enjoy other content. I am not rushing to endgame and enjoying the zones, professions and exploring. While tinkering with builds.
New world is, well, new. People are naturally going to be interested in the new thing. Especially since WoW is in a rut.
I was just thinking the same thing. This same person keeps talking about NW and how WoW sucks yet more and more posts keep coming.
I will never understand who people put so much faith into a site that has no actually data on player populations.
The devs need to fire up the game and play it. Secondly play other successful games and go back to… it’s not done till we say it’s done philosophy
They got call of doobie if they want quick money…every November. Just recolor Nuketown and profit
WoW used to be such a game. This past week, I spent way too much time in New World and felt the same way I did when I started playing WoW. Time flew, there was tons to do and best of all, none of it felt like it was a chore.
I remember when I would farm cloth to make gear and bags in WoW, it was fun because it meant something. Now there isn’t any reason to do it. You can only equip one crafted piece of gear, so meh… why bother.
I remember spending hours farming and skinning animals, because it meant something. Now? Why bother?
WoW butchered their professions to the point it doesn’t even make sense to level them.
In New World, the enemy faction was trying to take over our territory, and everyone (even us non-pvp’rs) went PVP to kick them out. I remember back in the day when everyone would go to Org or SW and try to prevent the enemy faction from killing the king. Now no one bothers.
Yes, part of it is because it is a new game, but the other part of it is that the developers of WoW started way too much time focusing on their time played metrics that they forgot that they were supposed to be building a game people would enjoy.
New World has basically zero end game staying power there is a reason that every pvp focused mmo has had a brief bright burn then a massive flame out.
Discussing how much better New World is… on a WoW forum. I’ll never not find that amusing. It’d be like going to Burger King, ordering a meal, then sitting down and telling everyone how much better McDonalds is…
New World is incredibly boring, most people simply haven’t played it long enough to get there yet.
Short of a massive influx of PvE content it will not remain a top performer for long.
Clam down with the beating, abomb is 14 yo.
Ya, we both did yet here we are, paying blizzard lol.
Himself.
I like how people use sites that list as “good” or “growing” population games that literally did shut down months or years ago.
Thats how deep they are in critical thinking skills, and they want their feedback heard LOL
Ikr these guys are what karen’s refers to when they see her kids playing fortnite 1 hour a day while they watch reality tv in pay-per-view.
The best gathering and manufactering gears have lucky traits for those specifics professions.
Luck is a major part of NW, it has insane rng.
You described AoC lol.
NW you just push everything and the leader of the company that declared war and won becomes the mayor, but not all towns can become capitals. Thats all. Not a bad system per say though, but the faction system is really bland, would be way better guilds vs guilds imo.
Believe me pvp in mmos whitout rated pvp, good amount of instanced pvp and descent balance just dies fast.
Fortress bonus are barely noticiable, the only bg is heavily focused in pve activities and only avaiable to high level players and NW pvp quests literally have no pvp in them, like you are actually losing yours and other’s people time if you engage in pvp while doing them.
And the balance right now is really bad specially for dex builds, they have no real advantage over any other.
Ahhh it’s you again, the guy who makes stuff up like sub numbers or the majority hate m+.
Blizzard thanks you for staying subbed even though you seem to hate everything about it.
Also new world will drop like a rock when people reach the end and there’s nothing to do like all these pvp sandbox mmos do.
Who knows maybe it will get to hang out in the gutter with the likes of archeage and bdo and all those other irrelevant pvp mmos.
Valheim tree cutting is way better in both sound and looks when the tree falls.
NW was boring as a pvp game in alpha (what it was originally intended to be), It was boring in closed beta after they changed directions and tried to turn it into a pve/pvp game. It was boring in the second closed beta. It was boring in the pre-launch preview.
There is nothing new about this game. It is a redundant game with very little content outside of pvp, and the pvp is even more redundant and boring than Warhammer:Age of Reckoning back in the early days of it being Doorhammer.
It’s a lot like you and your posts: new day, same content with no chance to change by design. There is little room for expansion since it is an island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, so where do you think they are going to add new content later?
Changing names of NPCs and mounts is not killing the game. Not a great take!
Odd because blizzard has yet to release a player count in years.
If new world was so good and addicting. . . why do these people make so big threads and even typing in it nonstop instead of playing?
