WoW Dropping Back to #3 Most Popular MMO This Weekend

It hilarious actually, Amazon web services is one of the biggest server farms in the world, they offers servers for Facebook .

These guys have so much money and tech , they should feel embarrassed

He means Chores as in “i don’t find this fun”… which is entirely subjective on what he (as well we) find fun.

Gathering, Skinning, Mining and so on, can be made to be fun. Heck, if you really want to, you can make an entire game out of 3 of those things and flesh them out a bit. I think what he’s referring to those things that those things are more fleshed out then just clicking on them… At least that’s what i think he’s trying to say, because looking at some of the gathering in New World via gameplay videos and such, it doesn’t look that much different from clicking and waiting for a few in WoW 2004.

For a game that taut crafting as the focus, i’m surprised the gathering bit is… basic.

You can’t really make any calls on how popular New World is for at least 3 months. Its a launch title so if it didn’t do well that would be more telling.

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that over the years…

…and another for every time I heard “But this time it’s for real!”

Yes I can New World has that prefect wonderment that WoW had for me when I started to play back in 2008…crafting …cooking…mining…lumbering…herbing…its so much better then WoW…the sounds you hear…turkeys gobble at you when you run near them…elks bellow if you get too close …cows moo at you …Bison snort at you…none of that is in WoW…the wonderment is totally off the chart right now.

All successful MMOs have long Que times. Think it’s a prerequisite. It’s funny cause people forget that, then complain that everyone wants to play. They have been doing an great job at handling it so far.

Totally agree, the more I play the more I’m like this is a great game! Really great MMO immersion. It has a lot of elements that just make you keep going back for more. WoW needs to do more than just rehash and funnel ppl into M+ and instances. We want content not repeat dungeons/instances.

I think basing any opinion on 1 week of a game coming out is a crazy thing to do. Doesn’t really serve any purpose either. They made 40m bucks on game sales. WoW makes that every 2 years times 3-5. So what? Lets see if they can actually retain players.

Also, considering WoW’s age, is it really surprising this is finally happening? People have said this for the last 15 years. Hasn’t happened. Will it this time? Guess we’ll see.

They are definitely here. Just because they don’t post doesn’t mean community outcry isn’t being heard.

If they weren’t here we wouldn’t have blue posts and additions of things people asked for.

Yes, they do. But dropping to the #3 spot isn’t sustainable. I’m not defending Blizzard here but the facts are the facts. Unless it’s a long-term #3, they’re not going to care.

Wonderment doesn’t mean it will have the staying power. There have been plenty of MMOs that had good starts but dropped off once people decided the long term gameplay loop wasn’t fun. While the world is a fresh experience to explore is a terrible time to say if it will appeal in the long term.

Exploring Zandalar and Kul’tiras was fun for example but that didn’t make the rest of BFA good.

It’s a 17 year old game. I think it’s you that needs to figure out WoW’s identity and realize that at some point, a 17 year old game can only reinvent itself so many times before it just accepts it’s fate. Acting like it’s Madonna or something.

Except they don’t read the forums so all your doing is projecting like usual. All you do is annoy us and make yourself look dumb. You seek attention that’s how we know you aren’t of age to be retired, and you already copped to 80 hours this week so go ask mommy and daddy upstairs for some attention for a change.

Please explain the difference between spending hours chopping down trees vs spending hours chopping down mobs.

Anyway, the measure of success of a game is not in the first few days, or even weeks, but after a few months. I remember the initial success of AoC way back when, another corpse littering the onward march of WoW.

I’m not a fan of New World myself. I played during the beta. It’s very very grindy. Professions are poorly balanced, and the pvp is super floaty. =/

There’s too much emphasis on min-maxing. You have to get gear with extra % in finding rare materials when you gather. YOU HAVE TO, it’s not a bonus if you have these things. If you don’t have these items, you aren’t getting are any of the uncommon crafting materials. lol

You can chop down the tress faster since Blizzard can’t hamstring your chopping speed by nerfing your stats into oblivion, then scaling content based off your current tool ilvl.

People like to say this -----
Final fantasy is great !
New World is great !
Wow is dead !

And yet here those same people are :stuck_out_tongue: .

Which records are they breaking? I mean, I know who HOLDS those records, but I don’t see them breaking any.

I didn’t spend 50 hours this week doing my ACTUAL profession. The one that pays me money. Well now I just feel sorry for you. :sleepy:

I’ve been playing NW non stop the last few days and I think it is safe to say the popularity is not going to last.

The crafting is far too tedious and time consuming.
You only have 3 skills to use in combat, I guess 6 if you count weapon swapping.
The only enemies in the entire game are forest wildlife and zombies.
The questing is even more boring and monotonous than WoW.
PvP focus that encourages you to not pvp. An opposing faction threw an area my faction controlled into conflict by actively avoiding pvp and just doing the pvp related quests over and over.
If you need to cross a river or lake, you walk to the bottom like the ghosts from the first pirates of the Caribbean movie. There is no swimming or swim animations at all.
Some crafting materials can only be found in very specific locations and in small amounts and can be difficult to procure. It took me literal hours to find enough saltpeter to be able to craft a substantial amount of gunpowder to then be able to craft ammunition.
Probably the most glaring issue is how poorly optimized it is and how badly it runs on a range of PCs.
