WoW Dropping Back to #3 Most Popular MMO This Weekend

Whether New World has lasting staying power will be seen. Initial rush has happened way too many times. I remember Star Wars The old Republic launched and they were so overwhelmed they had to add loads of extra servers. Less than a year later those servers were dead and majority of players had left. Wildstar, may it rest in peace, huge launch hype, busy servers. population collapsed and it is now shut down. Open day, week or month mean nothing.

The most recent update for Details has 1.1 million downloads for Shadowlands and 750,000 downloads for TBC. This excludes players in China, because they download addons from their own websites.

Please think before posting.

They will remove the ability for you to remove the clothes of female characters, and also all male characters will do less damage and have a movement penalty of 50%.

Also, accounts made by men will no longer be able to speak in game.

That shall solve the most of the issues currently affecting the game.

What an uneducated comparison.

Compare new world launch to wow shadowlands launch.

new world will lose numbers not everyone who is playing is going to stay. It’s normal lol.

to me new world is very similar to bdo and runsescape.

So endgame gear is gated behind endgame content. I’m confused by how this is a problem.

Anyway, I’ve played new world. The combat felt very bad. To me, that is more important than anything else. But the thing to take away is that you really enjoy new world, and you don’t enjoy the competitive pve aspect of wow, which is what sets it apart. So, please, stay in new world so they can no longer make decisions trying to cater to 8 different types of players in wow

Throw in some nonsense about coronavirus, and you have the post or the century

wow use to do that when servers were servers and u had a reputation on your server.

  1. Comparing the population of a game that’s been in the current expansion for over a year to the overhyped brand new AAA MMO release that came out like 2 days ago isn’t a reasonable comparison at all. Check New World’s population in 3-4 months and tell me its anything worth talking about lol.
  2. Let’s not pretend we actually have accurate sub data because of a 3rd party website using a Blizz API. You really think they’re gonna let you just deduce active subs using the API? Of course not. Hell, even that Bellular video talking about the numbers only popped up… weeks AFTER an API issue lead to such sites failing to report accurate data. An issue that’s still ongoing, as far as I can tell.
  3. Same for FFXIV, which I assume is the #1 or #2 you’re talking about. We don’t have data for it. They don’t release it. The last official data was years ago and it was “3 of our MMOs reached a combined 1 million subs”. More recently, during the lead up hype to Shadowbringers, players estimated… a little under a million. And I haven’t heard anything that leads me to believe those numbers went up rather than down over the course of the expansion (obvious exception for semi-recent events, I’m sure it bumped it a little).

I’m not saying WoW is infallible. Obviously it is not. But it bothers me that people get so worked up over proving that its finally dying or whatever that they’ll take unverified data or just outright make up numbers.

As I have said in previous post, I now have 2 days left on my sub. The only content I do or enjoy anymore in WoW is low level content with chromie time. So when my sub runs out I will be f2p from time to time on my Twinks. I also have stated many times that the issue with WoW is player retention since the majority of players are only subbed for 1-3 months a year. I am one of those players.

I have also made many threads on improving and fixing the game because it does suck that a place we called home now we only visit from time to time. I have been extremely clear that it would be great if Blizz could make a good game again, it’s been many years.

I have been enjoying New World immensely and will continue to play that game and hope that Blizz at some point changes the complete funk they are in with their terrible gaming philosophies because I would like to play WoW too.

Exactly, I love it. You can really immerse yourself into many aspects of the open world and game. There are many times where I’m doing something and look around and say, wow this is beautiful.

Just bought a house in New World, got the big boy house since first time buyers get 50% off only cost 10k. Now I’m off to chopping some wood and gathering so I can decorate and enjoy my fire place.

New world has nothing for end game to keep players engaged. They need more. MMO players have so much time on their hands you have no idea

  • they want constant new content and excitement
  • since majority of new world players are ex wow players they don’t want grinds. Grinding is boring now it doesn’t feel satisfying.
  • only few weeks left before meta builds are posted online and anyone not running those is getting excluded.
  • dungeons are about to get mapped out with optimum paths being the norm. U want to enjoy the scenery too bad .

9 times out of 10 new games are overhyped and underdeliver. I’m guessing New World will end up going the same exact way. Source? History. It might live on but I’d be willing to bet that in a couple short years it will just be an empty shell of what could have been.

What kills me is the people that still cling to the false notion that there’s still an MMO war. That war is over. WoW won it years ago. Everything that came after was trying for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place at the minimum.

Have to admit WoW feels pretty dead these days.

The current expansion is really bad. Nothing feels very interesting and the setting is lackluster.

The population also feels smaller than ever. Both in-game and in these forums there seems to be almost nobody around.

The mage forums used to move really fast. Sometimes 10 or 15 new threads each day. But now when I check-in there’s lucky to be 1 new thread each week.

This really does feel like a dying game. It’s pretty sad.

It’s definitely not as busy as it once was, but it doesn’t help that Shadowlands is turning out to be WoD 2.0, so there’s probably not going to be a full patch cycle, which means less interest in the game overall since the content remains the same for extended periods of time. Then when the recent drama surrounding Blizzard is also taken into account…oof.

Okay and NW has an aggressive content plan. Confirmation for new weapons and content is planned. They said that currently NW has in place 18% of the total content planned. So if the first content patch is 1 month after launch which they plan, it will keep player engagement.

Where Blizz is doing mediocre content at 8 month gaps now. It’s just not acceptable taking over a year to address simple things that should of been fixed at launch.

Yet NW feel immersive with it’s open world and professions where I can’t seem to stop doing it. I have to literally talk myself into logging out. I just did log out and need to make dinner because I should of done that hours ago.

Disagree that is WoW and not NW. It’s a totally different game with far far more depth to the builds and you are forgetting one key component. It’s an Action MMORPG.

The builds performance is up to the player. If someone is doing great dmg with a musket/headshot burn build but you can’t hit the side of a barn. You probably shouldn’t play that build. In fact every build is needed for a variety of activities so it’s best “YOU” find something you can have fun with and excel at.

Just because X player is using X doesn’t mean you should, which is the real beauty of NW in it’s weapon/combos and being an Action MMO. Long story short the best build in NW is the one you enjoy and are good at.

NW is a build theorycrafters dream which you want in an MMORPG. WoW needs a lot of work on Class design, they need to bring back talent trees and work on the core design of the Classes again.

new content and games always feel like they are amazing and will last forever :stuck_out_tongue: It will die down. 18% of content means they are already gating content like wow does LOL

It’s kind of funny seeing all these definitive statements about what a game is like when it hasn’t even been out 1 week.

Endwalker is going to be the end of New World, and if Blizzard can things around for 9.2, no one will remember where to find the gravestone.

its funny watching people not play other amazing mmos and instead spending time on wow forums to defend sad amazing addictive games LOL

You sure showed me, guy who also plays sad amazing addictive games.

i never said what im playing ? u sure showed me

I know you’re a bit on the slow side, so I’m going to give you a hand here:

MMORPGs by their nature are sad addictive games. It doesn’t matter which one you are playing.
