For those of us that transferred our characters over to normal server and then quit (I didn’t even play my character that died that day to the DDoS), will our toons be allowed to be sent back over to hardcore server? Or what’s going to be the protocol for those getting revives? I understand that apparent steps will be made, but individuals from Onlyfangs were not the only ones that died that day, I lost my level 50 Paladin that day due to the disconnects. In facts it was my only death on Hardcore since the anniversary server started.
As it stands right now, I don’t believe Blizzard has any plans to revive any characters on Hardcore. There is a warning that deaths caused by anything are possible and that’s the risk that players take when choosing to play on Hardcore.
If that policy changes, I’m sure it will be communicated in WoW Classic Hardcore
Excellent, thanks for that!
It doesn’t appear as though revives are guaranteed and it seems like it’ll be on a case-by-case basis, so just something to keep in mind.
This post was also in response to the recent community manager response to the DDoS, it is unclear how this will rollout though, there is nothing they mentioned that insinuated if or how those that were affected will have the situation rectified.
The blues here also wont be aware of any changes that arent already available.
Our broader stance on character restorations or death appeals has not changed. To be clear, we do not intend to revive characters which have died due to server disconnects, lag spikes, gameplay bugs, or any other reasons. Blizzard Customer Support cannot assist with issues related to characters who have died on Hardcore realms.
I don’t think anyone here is going to have the answers to provide clarity on this.
As it stands, if you transfered your character off from a Hardcore realm onto a normal classic realm, then there wouldn’t be a way to transfer it back.
As by the announcement though Kaivax says, they may revive the characters who died due to the DDoS attacks. But all the information that is posted in that thread, is all the information Customer Support would have.
The decision of Blizzard to rollback characters is extremely disappointing. There were clear rules for the Hardcore servers, which you had to agree tot on character creation, this included no rollbacks for any reason, including network issues such as DDOS attacks. Sadly the true hardcore players who wanted servers with integrity where there would be no special privileges, or ways to game the system, now have lost the servers.
It was bad enough with the petri flask making it easy to exploit the game and cheat, but with rollbacks now restoring players that are dead, the servers are tainted beyond repair, and there simply is no true hardcore server anymore.
While I suspect its to late for Blizzard to reverse their decision, ultimately I suspect this will cost them more players as the streamers and FOTM players were always going to leave, but now they have lost many of the true hardcore players. Many with roots from early D2, where deaths from lag or disconnections was common.
I also suspect now Blizzard is going to get a crushing number of people requesting that their HC death be reversed, since if they do it for streamers, how is it not fair to resurrect them for something they don’t deem fair. This will create a huge double standard, which there is no real solution, they can either continue to destroy what integrity if any is left on the HC servers, or they can suffer with having shown complete favoritism for streamers over their actual player base. So my condolences to the GMs which are going to have to deal with all the angry and entitled players demanding appeals, most of which should never have played on a hardcore server.
I mourn the death of hardcore.
Is this the latest and greatest deathknell of WoW?
This was addressed in the announcement:
Correct me, if I’m wrong, but aren’t the streamers also part of the ‘actual playerbase’? And I haven’t seen anything anywhere that indicates any preferential treatment for streamers to the exclusion of the rest of the ‘actual playerbase’. If I missed it, please point it out to me.
This is a big reason I would never even try hardcore. How many times leveling up something happens and you end up getting killed. Not sure how you manage to get through Molten core, Let alone BWL on a hardcore server. One boss in BWL alone would always end up killing a bunch of players due to the debuff you get.
Hardly WOW is going to be fine, a few niche players on HC certainly isn’t going to hurt wow, as people playing are on Retail, and things like SOD has far more players. What it hurts is the HC servers long term viability, once all the streamers, and FOTM players leave.
Sorry, Hazel, Customer Support has zero involvement in whatever steps the Game Developers plan to take. We’ll know the details the same as most everyone else.
I imagine it would be best to keep an eye on the post Kaivax made for any updates.
