WoW crashing with access violation at address 0x228

Just starting today, I’m semi-randomly crashing between immediately and a couple minutes after logging in. Always the same access violation at a 0x228 offset from null. Tried on a second character and got the same thing.

Did a scan and repair, did not fix the problem.

Program C:\World of Warcraft_retail_\Wow.exe
Exception: ACCESS_VIOLATION - The instruction at “0x00007ff661c5dfa6” referenced memory at “0x0000000000000228”.

Seems a lot of us are getting this, I’m constantly crashing, its either a war band thing or something to do with PCS with Intel chip sets, otherwise something they are going to have to patch.

I have AMD. Its just a bad patch…

I was on WoW without problem until around 10 PM EST, I got off to go do a few chores, came back at 10:30 PM EST and had to patch, and now I’m getting the same access violation.

I’m starting to encounter the same issue… need to disable my addons to avoid it; unsure which addon is causing it though…

Yup same issue here. The game is basically unplayable for me at the moment.

Edit: I’ve tried updating drivers, disabling all addons, tried to repair, changed my graphics settings, cleared cache, pretty much everything you can think of I’ve tried. And it still keeps crashing. The game is currently unplayable for me.

I’ve been messing with enabling and disabling addons, and disabling Shadowed Unit Frames seems to fix it for me… but I don’t really understand what happened, since this worked a few days ago and there haven’t been any updates since.

It’s also wild to me that an addon can even cause the program to crash like this.

Yeah, i turned off Elvui, and it worked without crashing for a good while. Then started crashing again after opening an event vendor…

I can log on for about 5 sec before I get this error but i can make a lvl 1 and run around with no problem…

im getting this constantly at random.

I’m having the same problem. After a 300MB WoW update, which I just installed about an hour ago, it started happening specifically with a character I have in remix. It happens on the loading screen, when I’m standing waiting for a dungeon, and out of nowhere when I open my backpack. Before today, I hadn’t had any problems.

My PC specs are:
Ryzen 7 5700X
RTX 4060TI 8Gb
32GB Ram 3600MHz
SSD WD Black SN850X 1Tb

currently suffering this as well. very annoying since I didn’t have this problem before the prepatch event. good update blizz

for prosperity here are my specs:
amd ryzen 5 3600
msi b550m pro
32gb ram
two Samsung ssds
windows 11

I’ve experiencing the same problem. I’ve been playing since TBC and I’ve never had this many game crashes due to random access violations than I’ve had since prepatch

EXACT same issue as OP.

Exception: ACCESS_VIOLATION - The instruction at “0x00007ff65a58dfa6” referenced memory at “0x0000000000000228”.
The memory could not be “read”.

Prepatch? Zero issues. Did the event earlier today and had no issues. It seems the new patch messed with things.

Same error here, so I disabled every addon but Elvui. I’m no longer getting the error.

Same here since the patch patch today i crash like 6 times in an hour talking to the renown keeper Anrymn is a 100% crash rate

Im not alone! Only disabling all addons keeps mine from crashing…

Yep same here, AMD 5800X3D, Nvidia 3060ti, got these crashes since the patch this morning. Disable addon’s seems to be more stable, … and more ugly :frowning: hopefully fix won’t be far.

Have same issue with same message. Game hard-crashes. I even tried turning off all addons. Game is completely unplayable.
AMD 5800x3d, Nvidia 3080.
