WoW Combat Superior to FFXIV

I have 300 hours into FFXIV. WoW has way superior combat. This leaving WoW for FFXIV has to be some weird temporary fad, because why would someone leave a game for inferior combat, inferior pvp, etc., etc… I agree FFXIV does “some” things better. But combat and PVP make a game, for me…

Someone explain to me how FFXIV is better than WoW. I don’t get it…

Late-game FF14 combat feels way better and more fluid depending on the job, for example dancer, it feels perfect because I have skills I can use between gcds.

Let’s say WoW’s combat is 20% better. That’s fair, right? I enjoy both, but WoW’s is just more responsive.

The problem is, that’s all WoW has going for it. FFXIV has actual breadth to its content and doesn’t completely hone in 100% on the combat-based endgame loot treadmill. When Ion said more diverse content would cost you a raid tier? FFXIV went ahead and spent many a raid tier on that diverse content.

Does this mean that FFXIV pales in comparison to what WoW has narrowly defined as its “endgame”? Yes, of course it does! But if you take off the blinders that WoW has conditioned you to wear, you’ll see that the MMO genre can be incredibly more broad than what WoW has its playerbase believing.

That is not to say FFXIV is a perfect game - far from it. It just becomes an appealing option if you’ve tired of the loot treadmill, or if design-by-eSport-metrics type gameplay isn’t something you’re interested in.

I’ll say this.

WoW combat = Marvel vs Capcom 2/ Super Smash Bros / Dragon Ball FighterZ.
FFXIV combat = Tekken / Soul Calibur / Guilty Gear.

You want an anime comparison?

WoW = Dragon Ball Z
FFXIV = YuYu Hakusho

WoW itself has solid and responsive gameplay. FF14s gameplay is a lot like most asian based MMOs I’ve played where everything is built around using combos.

It’s mainly the systems that people have issues with.

And then you do a roulette and it throws all that in the bin.

If that’s the price to pay to keep all content relevant instead of “playing the patch” solely, I’ll gladly pay it.

There, you answered it yourself. Other people have different opinions and priorities.

Yeah, the slow combat turned me off FF14.

“But it gets faster, keep playing!”

No. :stuck_out_tongue:

Let me be the first to say , yes I am aware I am on a monk. I love ww monk , I love black desert online , and I love older anime. All that being said , FF14 is just so bland compared to WOW. FF14 combat just doesn’t cut it. Also I can’t stand the way some of the transmogs work in that game. It hurts my eyes. People playing FF14 know it’s trash they are just acting like an ex that intentionally cheats on you to get back at you. Edit because However FF14 has much more positive community and wow devs could take notes and moderate what goes on in game more.

FFXIV Devs care about their game and it’s players and Blizz Devs are clearly drunk from putting out such terrible convoluted systems that NO ONE wants.

Players are going to go where they are treated better and the Blizz Devs literally hate the players and design the game to make them suffer. You don’t have to deal with this in other games.

Solitaire is a better more fun game than WoW regardless of what you think about combat.

There’s gonna be a solution for that soon, where it will put you into not too low lvl roulettes anymore but if your max lvl then more recent expansion ones, but honestly, I don’t mind. I love being put into low lvl dungeons if it means helping a sprout.

Oh, but it does!

But I don’t blame anyone who can’t get through the initial slog. It is a huge turn off. The payoff is worth it, and that slog is necessary, but I don’t fault anyone that can’t make it through.

It’s not. It’s mostly proc base combo. Most Asian based MMO’s are action combat. FFXIV is one of the few that resembles WoW considering the dev himself played this game for awhile.

They are different, I am not sure if one is better than the other. Some jobs in FF14 have so many off GCD abilities that make the rotation feel really good.

I don’t mind helping noobs and doing a dungeon scaled. I mind that all the fun skills are removed for no apparent reason. When I play AST and get put into sub 50 roulette, it’s boring. If I wanted to play a white mage, I’d play a white mage.

Okay. And I don’t play it because it doesn’t have enough raid content. Ion Hazzikostas made “the play”. FFXIV has three Mythic raid bosses that are purely prestige, four current-tier Heroic raid bosses, and then a lot of story and transmog runs.

Also, WoW’s combat isn’t 20% better. It’s a lot better. FFXIV feels like you’re moving through sludge all the time forever. 2.5 second GCD, mechanic snapshots where you died 2.4 seconds ago but the game hasn’t informed you yet, etc.

I don’t want all content to become relevant. All content relevant means Molten Core or the Praetorium is relevant forever. Yuck. I wouldn’t wish anyone to have to play through old content at gun-point.

Also, WoW doesn’t just have raids. It also has M+. FFXIV doesn’t really have an analog to M+. It’s all 8-man raiding and then Gold Saucer stuff. Some meme runs here and there like Blue Mage. Almost all of the end-game progression is purely 8-man single-target boss fights.

That’s why their replies are like that. They didn’t hugely invest in FFXIV to see the comparison. If anything they’re still dedicated to WoW wholeheartedly. I play both games consistently because I love mmorpgs. I don’t really have to sugarcoat anything because I know the differentiation between the two games.

You honestly can’t sit there and direct compare WoW to FF14 though because the games are completely different in terms of the audience they’re aiming at.

It’s like trying to compare Cities Skylines to Anno 1800 or Banished.

Jobs like Ninja play faster than pretty much every WoW spec currently.

Move out of the bad faster??
