I understand the purpose of Stress testing and I was happy to help. This notion that only streamers got in is silly. From what I saw it seems that all the people who were already in BETA was able to create characters but those of us who were invited for stress test only were not able to create characters. I have no problem with that but I wish now that the test is over that I could log in and play.
I hoped they learned something form all my attempts. I sure did … stress testing doesn’t mean that I’ll actually get to do anything. Don’t mean that to sound ugly. I just know what to expect if I get invited again.
the fcking servers are down, error 37!!!
Sadly, we did stress test the login servers. It was never about the playing. I’m sure that if Blizz had said “Testing the login servers, you won’t actually be able to play” no one would have bothered to log in. Soo … kind of dirty pool. However, the servers are up and functional now. It’s still wow, and it’s still a chance to do testing, so I intend to play as much as I can the next 21 hours…
First hour and half was spent disconnecting and last hour and half spent timing out at character creation. Maybe will get normal Beta at some point so the 3 hours spent just spamming server won’t be as bitter.
I agree, some play time to reward for the login server test would be nice
Did you go to your account and check your preference to do Classic beta?
why is the sever off line STILL if your keeping it up till tomorrow?
This will exist on release day 100%. Game companies rent enough servers to service x% of players on launch. You feasibly allow y% of players to be discontent or have a less than desirable experience so long as the lions share of players are content or willing to deal with launch issues. This is why after all these years, games still have launch problems, you need way more servers day 1 than even day 5 or week 3 or month 1’s closing.
The practical business decision which is standard in the industry is to rent less servers than you actual need or predict to need on launch day because when graphed it’s the best possible money to satisfaction ratio, where if those extra 10% are happy for 30% more server costs - it’s simply not worth it.
Some companies goof this horribly, some have unforseen problems but universally all gaming companies will get less servers than they need because it’s how to run a successful business. None of us clamoring to play Classic much care that there were some issues we suffered in vanilla 15 years ago.
The launch can be less than awesome, people are addicted to the game and will be trying to log in 3 hours later, a day later, etc.
I really wish they would just tell us if they will be bringing the servers back up tonight or tomorrow so I won’t keep trying to login and just jump on non-classic wow.
Just leave the server select up, it’ll change when it comes back up, and it should or they flat out lied.
This thread is endless entertainment
So now instead of just missing oldschool wow, I have to feel left out and jealous of whatever “classic” is because blizzard prefers industry proven short term profit via selling consumerized version of once loved game, over the slight risk of navigating uncharted waters to invent ways of making money from game that appeal to the kind of people that once made up the strongest/largest game community that has, and probably will ever exist. Should have invited ONLY “classic” player.
I like that most of you understand the point of a stress test. This most likely was the “to be expected” point. The next round of stress tests will likely go better, and the one after that should give them what they need to iron out the rest. I for one didn’t mind participating in the cycle of login and outs.
In a stress test, you are giving to them what they need so they can give something back in the end.
So a lot of us are confused. Is this considered a successful stress test? I think no more than 400-500 people logged in during that time the rest of us were stuck in repeating queues or an offline server. It wasn’t until after the end time that a lot of people actually were able to log in and stress anything.
Can we expect the same thing for the next one? Because there is a majority of people who simply won’t bother.
All of you who failed to get in…now I bet all of you want beta access _ even more_ right? Working as intended.
This one was the tease. I doubt that they intended that every stress tester get to play a character during this round. That’s why they announced a series of stress tests.
You all know you will be back when it is available the next time you see it on the launcher. Better luck next time!
They would not know this quickly. It takes time to analyze the data they collected.
I got the invite downloaded and got to character selection, but kept getting the timeout and was unable to get into the server. It did say medium population at one point. Not sure if this was intentional to not allow people in after a certain amount or not. I have i9-9900 and 2080ti gpu should not be a hardware issue.
Is closed beta coming back up tonight as well? They said current testers can only play the stress test during the 2 hrs, so wondering if they are bringing closed beta servers back up tonight to as long with the stress test servers, or is the closed beta gonna be completely unplayable til tomorrow night?
For those of you that attended the stress test. If you go to your program files you can see where there were error files, login details, and collection of your computer hardware files created. This test may have also been to help them gather information not only on the servers but on the users as well.
