If I were part of the current dev team and didn’t have a hand in Vanilla, I’d be pretty embarrassed right about now. I mean unless I was lobbying for changes in the direction of classic or directly responsible for it in some way.
Also dont forget a lot of retail players dont sub. They play for free with tokens (since WoD)
There are a lot of factors at play here. This is very selective information regarding the state of WoW.
Classic was a success but considering the active litigation against blizzard and the tanking stock, they need to present the optimal picture for shareholders.
Really wish you people would do some research before saying paid transfer will never be a thing. To each his own though. I’d post a link about how if your saying blizzard said they would never come you’re full of it but I can’t.
YUPPP! It’s nice to have some firm numbers, even if it’s just a lower bound.
And in case anyone is suggesting that it’s talking about percentage growth, remember that the first quarterly report would have infinite growth because it started with zero.
Here’s the report: https://investor.activision.com/financial-information/quarterly-results
From the powerpoint:
World of Warcraft®Classic added record number of subscription plans[1] in Q3
…
[1] Monthly or longer-term subscriptions.
Not a ratio. Raw subs. More raw subs than any other quarter in the history of WoW.
Do you have a blizzard source that definitively states that there will be no paid server transfers?
Bear in mind that that would be a change. Blizzard started offering paid transfers in mid 2006. You couldn’t transfer from PvE to PvP, and there was a 6 month cooldown… but they existed in vanilla.
IF only they were more ambitious. Classic + would have netted them an even greater number of subscriptions, and ones that were willing to stick around as well.
Check back in Q4 or Q1, you’ll see there has been a massive drop off. You have to remember that they didn’t make money selling classic because everyone already owns it. They made money off monthly subs, which most classic players have already canceled.
The Nielsen reports have already said that they didn’t even make as much money off it all as they did when BfA launched.
