WOW classic TBC, where you can continue your current character… death is still permanent… you get a special buff showing you are an actual “lvl 1- tbc” character (similiar to sf)
And… people can create level 58 or 60 characters and begin at the dark portal, with baseline gear, gold, bags, and basic mount learned.
That way you get the HARDCORE experience of TBC without starting in Elwynn and without them really having to do anything to the game.
There would be tonnes of prestige to ppl who went 1-70… but keep a healthy population on the server by allowing ppl to create 58-60s’s fresh.
I bet 99.9% will choose to boost. People are competitive, you also have FOMO.
Here’s another idea.
You need to earn the privilage of starting at 60, you must have a 60 on Vanilla HC first.
I think the gating aspect will be met better with this rule.
But not as HC, that wouldn’t work with how open world content is trivial with flying mounts while instanced content is way deadlier than in classic era.
Thinking from the PoV of Blizzard: why try TBC HC if current classic era HC barely has any players already and TBC content is way deadlier? Like I get that there is no harm in asking but I don’t think it would work the more I think about it.
I misunderstood the idea, yea if they release a classic TBC server it makes sense to introduce the soul of iron, though imo that thing just gets cheesed with people zoning in just for the bosses.
I find it funny you refer to people gating content in reference to request for a hardcore server. My guy do you not see the irony? Hardcore is the ultimate gatekeeper. If you want to get to endgame content you have to get through all this other content without dying lol.
Just saying the hardcore community in general loves “proving oneself” and adding boosts is completely antithetical to the core game design.
I am not sure that would work. A number of bosses outright kill people in raids, and rng fights do happen. I mean people want tbc one of the better expansions, but hardcore worked in vanilla because of the raids needing more pre-prep then mechanics,
